Well... the whole rig is hooked up and mostly loaded up. Now it's just packing stuff, trying to clean up the COLOSSAL mess that was our home, and trying to remember everything we need.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Worked on the trailer all day -- reinforcing the floor, reworking the rear of the frame, adding stake pockets -- and plywood sides. A bit still to do, but we got the piano and three refrigerators onto it while I had a helper here.
The plan was to leave now. But maybe this time tomorrow.
Luckily, Millicent is loaded (except for minor stuff in the living compartment). 56 bicycles and a good deal other stuff went into her three days ago.
My "new year resolution" as of now: Learn not to procrastinate! Everything I'm doing now could and should have been done months ago.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
My SUV is all packed except for the last minute things like shaving and tooth brushing equipment. Tuesday afternoon will be time to do all that and then we leave on Wednesday morning for an overnight in Reno and on to the Playa on Thursday morning.
Very ready to be on my way!
Fires in the northwest are so very tragic, especially for those whose homes have been lost. Lots of smoke all over it seems.
Extra care driving, kiddies.
Cheers

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Well, damn... I got a lot done but wish I'd done more (isn't that how it always goes)? Yesterday went 18 hours, and today pretty much did too. What should have been a quick and easy 30 minute job to assemble trike box/battery array #2 turned into several hours of troubleshooting and re-soldering. As much as a pain as it was, it was easier to do it here than in the desert, so hopefully they'll both be able to roll out of the van and be ready to ride in minutes.
That put me WAY behind on the other stuff I was doing, namely pre-cooking and packing my clothes. I just finished up all the pre-cooking, but I haven't gotten any of my clothes packed yet and it's not happening tonight. Fortunately I don't think it'll take me very long, and everything else is in pretty good shape. I'll grab a bunch of dry ice for the chest freezer then we'll get van #2 as soon as both places open, then lock and load and launch. Safe travels everyone, I hope to see you at the MnG if not sooner.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
It is pretty smoky around here (Seattle area) and we aren't even that close to the fires. Awesome red-orange-pink sun and moon though!
My planned route to BRC (Wally Route 4) is currently closed due to fires.
Well it's time to get up and go to work, got four days left before I can bolt.

Three cheers for you, Patsch, and you, Lucky, and you, Captain Goddammit!
(Question: How long 'til we start calling him Admiral Fukkit?)
There's a new experience every minute.
Last night before departure was last night. I was going to get a Domino's pizza to save time, but saw a box in my cabinet, that offered a 1 portion pasta in 1 minute....Barilla, I think the name was....and it was pasta twists in marinara sauce. Then, I spotted some turkey pastrami in the 'fridge, some parmesan cheese left over from spaghetti, and decided to get creative. I sliced up the pastrami, mixed it in with the pasta twists, and added parmesan cheese to the mix when complete. Italian food WITHOUT the 30 minutes wait for Domino's. And all I had to clean was a knife and fork.
One or two more 'ridin' outta here tunes" before I go for you wonderful folk.

I work till 4pm Wednesday, go home, sleep for 3-4 hours and start driving. Can't I just leave today? My work wont mind, right?
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

Hey Gang..
I'm right there with you...working through Wednesday and leaving in the wee hours of Thursday morning...not getting much done at work
except this:
I was greeted at the door by 5 million crickets. Went back to the van to get a weapon before I could even open the building up. GROSS...

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
nilasnake and lucky, I know exactly what you mean. It takes preparation to get to the playa, and damned hard work on some of it.
My electric, sewer, water, phone, cable, and Internet are all paid a month in advance. I leave a post-dated check for rent. I'm lucky in the sense I have direct deposit. I start looking at 'stuff' in November. Home Depot gets a run about Xmas-time for blinky items. I accumulate spare rechargeable batteries all year long. I look in WIERD places for food items....the farm supply has wonderful soup mixes for stew - barley-beef, cheese potato; they also sell the bacon cheese curls I got. Bacon can come from a variety of places here, from the farmer's market (I know the processing business, too) to Swiss Meats in Swiss, Missouri (home of WORLD-CHAMPION brunschweiger and over 60 varieties of bratwurst) to Burger's Smokehouse in California, Missouri, which has the thickest cut bacon I've ever seen....they call it "Steak cut bacon". I get stuff I need, then go back to get what I want for the playa. Or I get both at the same time. I never know until the last minute if it's enough.
