yes, it should not be considered healthy to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.
with that said, one must realize that even if you dont like em' (the laws) you have to abide by them or suffer consequences....i'm not saying it's right, or just, i'm saying that it IS.
rainbow for some reason has the notion that they are above the law, and need not heed it.
this is where they run into trouble.....self-policing is all fine and dandy, unless the police are tripping the light fantastic and might think you are a purple people eater bent on devouring some "kitchen"....
hippies do NOT make good cops, i'm sorry, they just dont.
if any group of people regardless of the religious, or ethnic or political persuasion were to behave as the tribes do, the response would be the same....
get with the fucking program, and provide a safe, sanitary, well run event and i'll have a different opinion of it.

Uncle Sam has had a hard-on for the Raibow Family since the very beginning. It's not that they think they are above the law, there were several years where they tried to do it by the book, but their permits were always denied...gyre wrote:Functioning society?
Not in my dealings with law enforcement.
I do know of a widely covered incident where the rainbow people caught a long time sex offender molesting a child, held him, gathered evidence and ensured people were available for trial testimony.
I think it was in virginia.
The sheriff has praised them profusely and made it clear they are always welcome in that county.
I find it difficult to picture anyone wasting drugs on a thief.
I think they might consider that a reward.
Is this possibly part of the misinformation campaign the park service continues to participate in?
Last year, the park service made agreements to settle things.
All agreements were broken by the park service.
I witnessed that.

Possibly, you mean National Forest and/or BLM-administered public lands?gyre wrote:Yes.
I think they always meet for nationals in a national park or national forest.

Never in a National Park!
And I don't think its ever been held in a National Desert?
......?

I've only been to one.
I thought they had used parks before, but I don't know.
It is always a very isolated area.
Maybe I have been told of small ones held in park areas?
All previous nationals have been in National Forests, I find.
So that does seem to be correct.

I don't believe that there is such a designation as a "national desert." If administered by the Forest Service, it would be a National Forest. There are "National Seashores" (I think that's Park Service.) BLM has "Wilderness Areas." National Monuments are Park Service again. I think. What is it? "Black Rock Desert, High Rock Mountain, Emmigrant Trails_________"? And there may be other historical sites besides "monuments." 3 basic agencies, each of which has at least two kinds of administration.
And then there are state owned lands...

You don't have to pay to get into Great Smoky National Park. It's a sore spot for the NPS ever since they signed the bill. It was stipulation not to charge an entrance fee demanded by the local congressman to get the area into the NP system. and it one of the most visited and expensive parks to run. They lost alot of money and the park sucks up much of the NP's funding to maintain it.

National Preserve
National Forest
National Park
National Grassland
National Seashore
National Monument
National Desert Preserve NWR
theres lots more designations
BLM manages the lions share, followed by USDA Forest Service, then Park Service, then right on down the line.
almost 90% of Nevada is federal land in one way or another. Military, BLM, etc.

AFAIK the Rainbow people generally (mis)use National Forest land in the US, though access might also involve BLM land. Sans permits, of course.
And they certainly didn't originate the phrase "Welcome Home".

I think it's 7% of the land isn't government, but while it's mostly fed, state and locals take some of it, too.mdmf007 wrote:

It's an incredible shitload of those same hippie losers all at once. They could learn a lot about responsibility from Burners, kind of an amazing thing to say about anyone... but then, Rainbow hippies could learn about responsibility from... oh, never mind, they couldn't learn anything from anyone.

The first rainbow gathering that I remember hearing about was the one in 84 when some woman supposedly dropped her baby in the fire.
Never sounded like a wholesome place to me.

Just bear in mind the active disinformation campaign being waged.
I would be astonished if they are unaware of this thread by now.
The people I camped with outdid anything I've seen at burning man.
Picture burning man still running from 1996 with no permits or cash.
That's what they do there.
The sacrifices and determination involved are huge.
The core people are the ones I would seek out if civilization collapsed here.

i think you may have just touched on an interesting subject....who would you rather party with after armegeddon?gyre wrote: The core people are the ones I would seek out if civilization collapsed here.
up until recently, BM was insulated from the outside world in pretty much everything, as it was "off the grid" so to speak unless you were a leo or had a sat-phone.
every year it seemed some major catastrophe loomed in the headlines as soon as we exited and reached reno.
hurricanes Katrina, and Charlie, and who could forget the year Lady Di Died...(97' ?...i forget)...you never knew, the whole world could blow up and you would have no fucking idea.
this is my point.....what better group of people to live on nothing, be radically self sufficient and have a GREAT TIME doing it then the Burner Community...(well, most of it.....ok, some of it....)
we live post - apocalyptic all year round......and look forward to our week of harsh conditions and bad food and literally life threatening enviorment like fat kids love their cake....
we are the cockroaches of culture, you cannot kill us...try as you may.
we will survive.....and we'll do it in STYLE!

They call them Hippies for a lack of intelligence

They do a good job of cleaning up and in a couple of years you wouldn't know they were there.
