SFPD would have shot everyone and made damn sure NO camera footage got out. SF has had its share of face down suspects murdered. Police murders are on the rise and will continue to increase if nothing is done.

DVD: Your pic mentions that the suspect was cuffed, this is not true as you can see in the video.

JKisha: Nice to know you think its cool to shoot unarmed people in the back while they are face down for allegedly commiting a misdemeanor. Maybe someday cops will be able to shoot those pesky jaywalkers.
First off, the Cop got killed. Dont know what that has to do with a cop killing someone but that's neither here nor there.
Second, if you went to the website of the creator of the poster, he admitted as such that the victim was not handcuffed.
3rd, on JK, finally something we agree on.
I guess you only read the first paragraph on that link. Try reading a lil further down DVD for the good stuff. Also check out the movie MILK, very good flick and a true story too. If memory serves the cop blamed the murder he commited on an overdose of Twinkies.

JK I hope your wishes for a police state where law enforcement shoot face down compliant individuals in the back never comes about. What if someone is having diabetic issues.. I guess since they look drunk and disorderly its OK to pop a cap in their ass.

Ok, I understand your being in Florida makes you an aficionado on San Fran history and all so I'll just leave it at this.

I have only lived in San Fran for over 20 some odd years or so and know already of the cases you posted.

As I said, the cop was killed and with Milk, that cop committed suicide.

Now as far as arguing any further with you, I'm just not going to do it.
Too much energy involved and I'd rather save my energy for Palestine.

Anarchy in the Streets of Oakland

How a peaceful demonstration against police brutality turned into an all out riot that left downtown Oakland aflame and in shambles.

Wednesday January 7th, 2009

It was just supposed to be a protest rally seeking justice for the cold blooded murder of an unarmed man at the Fruitvale BART station on New Years day. Oscar Grant, a twenty-two year old father of one, was shot in the back while lying on the ground by BART cop Johannes Mehserle and later died from his injuries. In an attempted cover up, Mehserle’s fellow officers began confiscating cell phones of commuters who’d witnessed the unprovoked murder. In spite of their efforts, not one but three separate videos were soon all over the internet and television news.

The killer was allowed to walk away from the scene, and was placed on PAID leave pending an investigation. He later resigned from the BART P.D. on January 7th, having still not spoken with investigators.

Not having a television or reliable internet access in the theater I’m currently residing in, I first learned of the murder of Oscar Grant when I received an invitation to the rally at the Fruitvale BART station where Oscar Grant was killed via my Facebook account. Not being a fan of law enforcement in general, and outraged at the merciless killing of an unarmed civilian and the resulting miscarriage of justice, I immediately decided to go to this protest rally and lend my support.

The rally was scheduled for three to seven P.M. and it was just before three when the bus deposited me at the BART station. There was a good size crowd already, and once the speeches began, the crowd began to grow at an almost exponential rate. It was a really diverse group of folks too, of all ages and from all walks of life. Among these were a couple of anarchist kids, girlfriend and boyfriend. For some reason I disliked them immediately, especially the girl. I had the strange desire to punch her in the mouth with a roll of quarters and I couldn’t understand why. I was really conflicted, because I don’t have anything against anarchists, I used to call myself one in fact, and this girl was really sexy, she had beautiful eyes peering out from atop her black bandanna, and beneath her bandolier belt she was all curves. There were a lot of anarchist kids in attendance, and she wasn’t the only hot chick, but none of the others made me nervous. Something about her made me not just uneasy but a little worried and slightly angry as well.

I tried to forget about her and drank one of the two beers I’d brought with me as I listened to some of the speeches, collected some literature, and bought a “Stop the Violenceâ€

Modesto PD had a female officer do the same. She had a suspect in the back of her patrol car, cuffed, attempting to kick out the windows. She opened the back door, took out what she thought was her taser, and shot the suspect point blank in the chest. The dead suspect's family hired Johnny Cochran, who died on the job. The City of Modesto settled outside of court.

Since then, Taser International(R) teaches in their training that their taser be worn on the opposite side of the firearm, weak hand draw, specifically to avoid mistaking the firearm for the taser.

I question the officer's personal committment to his training, and being prepared for an issue that could be his reality every day.

Thanks for sharing what you saw LS. The lights going out was intentional and is going to be a standard operating procedure nationwide. The camcorder police scare the real police so this was added to the list of tactics. When I was protesting FTAA in Florida there was so much footage of us getting shot while unarmed and complying with law enforcement and proof the cops lit fires that it made em look real bad in the end and all charged were released, all civil cases settled. This was especially good for us since the event was so large and permitted, still doesn't help the folks shot in the face with non-lethal but painful rounds for demonstrating to try and keep jobs here in America.

I just wish people would have the balls to keep their beef with the police instead of residents in the protest zones.

Thank you for demonstrating lonestoner.. regardless of the eventual outcome. At least YOU tried to do the right thing. It only takes one or two to make something intented to be peaceful turn out real ugly as the video shows.

Update!

Post by lonestoner916 » Fri Jan 16, 2009 2:50 am

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

I was a bit late arriving to the rally, and missed the opening statements, when it was announced that Mehserle had finally been arrested. The crowd was much bigger and more diverse than before, and so was the police presence. They were itching for a fight I think, many of them wore zipties in their belts, to be used as handcuffs if need be. I listened to speeches by members of C.A.P.E. the coalition against police executions, and M.O.N.A. mothers of never again. I took part in a demonstration where we lay on the ground in front of the stage with our hands behind our backs, imitating Oscar Grant’s position when he was shot and killed. They read the names of many other people who had been killed by police, and after each name we cried, “Please don’t shoot!â€

Your unease with the two anarchists may be based on something real.
Do you think they might be agents provocateur?

Lonestoner -
In the midst of media chaos, it's nice to hear from a frontline burner.
Thanks for sharing your story. I look forward to the next.

It's definately interesting to compare the accounts of people that were there to the accounts of the event you read or hear about in the news. Thanks for posting.

As an Oakland resident (east oakland, thank you), I'd like to see this same indignation towards the perpetrators of the other 120+ murders that will most likely be committed this year. And as far as the anarchists go, I was wondering how many of them are up at 3 AM volunteering their services for garbage collection, keeping the water pressure up, the sewers flowing and the power on or maintaining the roads that keep the spray paint deliveries on time.

I think they were probably just fuckheads, but anything's possible.
