Actually, I have read Under the Banner of Heaven, and know a whole shitload more about Mormonism than you do. I was Mormon until I was 18, and saw the dark, as it were. There are absolutely NO similarities between the Mormon culture and the Burning Man Culture. NONE. No one is ever brainwashed by Burning Man. Every member of this community makes a conscious choice to be a member of it. In fact, most of us have to go to great lengths of almost Herculean Effort even to get there each year. Most Mormons, on the other hand, stay Mormons simply because they have allowed their world-view to be so narrowed by the brainwashing machine that is an LDS upbringing that they don't even know there ARE different valid ways of thinking. Sounds like someone else we know, come to think of it.

Let me tell you this: there is not, nor has there ever been, a conspiracy to suppress your opinions, no matter how much they may be in contention with our beliefs. The reason you have been TOSsed repeatedly is because you're an abusive troll. There is plenty of room for healthy discussion about the value of the Burning Man Project, and we encourage active consideration of both sides of the point. This community cannot, however, tolerate physical threats of violence, or the vitriolic messages you convey. If you want to talk about the merits of Burning Man, fine; but keep the ad-hominem, invective, and (apparently Projected) paranoia to yourself.

Also Sprach Genius.

I have it on good authority (my own deranged musing and with BRR what better authority
is there?) that he's actually our beloved cult leader taking a page out of the Big Brother

When Lydia Love can ask "Who's hand is up your ass?" and "I like it that it has to be done with some modicum of respect for the community as a whole." in the same posting, I am torn with mixed images.

Happy Images!! of course, but whose '(w)hole' are we talking about here and whose hand is up that whole? And what is this 'respect' thingy?

Ric, you just made a terrorist threat.
Hey Calsur I don't agree with Reverend Schmuck-o's online masturbathon either, what worries (more than annoys) me is when you and others take his words and place them in a completely inappropriate context to exagerate and incite. You may not like what he has to say but suggesting that they guy's verbage is anchored in intent (i.e. terrosrist) is absolute bullshit.

Seriously.

There's enough going on in today's political climate and the climate of fear that's buttresses it without good people like yourself contributing to it by injecting the 't' word into the fray.

Differences

Post by Maia » Fri Apr 30, 2004 7:53 am

A. Lotta psychological projection you all are doing, quite interesting how modern urbanites defend the undefensible, dear hearts.

B. Question : How do you tell the difference between eplaya posters and Nevada Rednecks.
Answer : Pose the following question: You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and charges. You are carrying a Glock .40, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
eplaya posters answer:
Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!
Does the man look poor or Oppressed?
Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
Could we run away?
What does my wife think?
What about the kids?
Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?
What does the law say about this situation?
Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it?
Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?
Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me?
Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?
If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?
Should I call 9-1-1?
Why is this street so deserted?
Where are my pants?
We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.
This is all so confusing!
I need to debate this with some friends for a few days and try to come to a consensus.

Y'know, Maia/RevJ/BRR/Seargent Spanky, for someone who claims an intense hatred for BM, you sure are good friends with that strawman.
Did it ever occur to you that stroking your social darwinist cock to the tune of texas justice looks mighty foolish when you just got finished bitching about the gloriously undemocratic way your last avatar got flushed for breach of contract?
Oh, and for the sake of a nice, clean flamewar, could'ja keep your wife and kids out of this? You're a plump, juicy target; putting them between us and you won't do anybody a bit of good.

Hey Maia,

You left the following out of your eplaya responses to imminent attack:

Flick fast acting xtasy down his screaming gullet
Distract him with your nude-save-for-bodypaint wife's breasts
Trip him with an unmarked guywire
Gash his shin with uncovered rebar
Tell him that stabbing is not in the Burningman Spirit
Call him a spectator
Throw MOOP in his porto-john
Toss your patchouli in his eye
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

I can't help myself.

Ric, 18 rounds for one guy? Two words: shot placement. Try it this way: tap 'em three times, if he is still up re-sight and three more, if he is still up he has a vest on so three times for a t-shirt shot, if he is still up run like a stripe assed ape because you suck with a firearm.

I grew out of playing with guns some time ago, but do keep up through friends (look it up), do you know that for not that much more you could have gotten a lot better weapon than that rinky-dink Glock?

Wow!! This guy keeps setting himself up for abuse... masochistic? No fucking doubt! And as for that scenario, here's one that my son tried: grab the gun out of the guy's hand and turn it on him. Now that's a burner!!

Something to think about

Post by Maia » Fri Apr 30, 2004 10:51 am

A man, his wife and their kid purchase tickets to burning man and registers the ?peace loving? theme camp. He purchases the tickets with his credit card. Because of the Patriot Act provisions that force business to share their data, the man's name is flagged, his records also indicate he recently reserved an RV.
Five days before Labor Day, the NSA which is now a branch of the Department of Homeland Security notes his departure. He is held by NHP at Gerlach. Since he is being detained under authorization by the Office of Homeland Security under provisions of the Patriot Act, he can be held without any reason for any length of time and without a trial. He effectively "disappears." It is all very legal and no "violations" of his rights occur, because it all falls in the mandate of the Department of Homeland Security.
A day later a tourist in Gerlach sees a small child crying in a Bruno?s, his mother is holding him and the child is asking "where is Daddy?" and cries again. The tourist "Mikey" looks over and says "I hate snivelers."
He pays for his lunch and leaves. The Burningman special he ordered is rung up on his credit card, the word "Burningman" is flagged by the computer at the Department of Homeland Security, his location is noted as Gerlach. That afternoon he "disappears."
The guard at the camp in Guantanamo walks with a trainee at the holding facility. They pass a cell where the inmate pleads for someone to help him. The guard looks at his companion and says in a thick, New Jersey accent "I hate snivelers."
The camp is full.

Under the provisions of the Patriot Act all burning man attendees names and data can be turned over to the Department of Homeland Security. All of you who will attend could be subject to the above. You can be assured that someone thinks bm is subversive. My personal guess is the management of burning man would not want to tell people they turn names over to ?The Man?. Something to think about..

As one woman to another, (I make that assumption because of your love for the "Mother Goddess" [me] and your reference to enslaved animals, both of which are not terribly manly) don't you think your responses are somewhat poorly thought out?
