*grin* I applied as well but with so many applicants I'm not holding my breath. It would be neat if you moved over to this neck of the woods!

I wouldn't work in SF for $4,000/month...but I wouldn't work anywhere for $4,000/month.

But without a car $4,000 should be plenty do-able. Just don't expect a nice place to live, or commute in to the city. The bay area is a huge place, it isn't all SF.

WOW,
Sounds like that dude, needs to put the electronics down, and go meet some people.
Then he will have something to talk about besides old movies.

But I can't really talk because I'm logged onto eplaya almost all day.

They sure ask for a lot of "credit information". Since when has this policy started? Bank Statement? Last rent check? Pay Stub? It's bad enough you have to pay for your own credit report!
*Please bring a copy of your photo ID, your checkbook, and $25.00 cash per applicant for the application fee so we can process your application. In addition, you will need to provide copies of your most recent paystub, your most recently cashed rent check, and your bank statement to complete your application.

I stayed with a friend in that neighborhood and liked it quite a lot. He was paying $100 less for the same kind of place, but it was some years ago.

Be sure to visit the "city" to see what it is like to live there.

It may not be what you expect.

It's a BIG city with all the indifference and bad that goes along with that.
And many people are busy just struggling to survive.

I hadn't been there a week before telling a stranger to go fuck themselves.

But it also has everything you have heard about too.

No point in being there if you can't enjoy it though.

Keep in mind that Silicon Valley is still kicking and there are still job opportunities here.

In addition, you will need to provide copies of your most recent paystub, your most recently cashed rent check, and your bank statement to complete your application.
The ID (proof of citizenship), $25 "application" fee (actually making you pay for your credit check, which they may or may not run) and pay-stub (proof of employment & ability to pay the rent) are fairly common.

I'm assuming the checkbook is so you can put down first/last & security if they decide they like you and the cashed rent check would be to prove that you're not ripping off your current landlord. The bank statement sounds completely sketchy to me (I'm sure they justify it as "making sure you have enough money to pay rent", but it seems to be skittering on the edge of legal...)

I know of a couple of cases (one horrible one in the unit next to me) of people moving in & paying the first month/ last month and then not paying again. Due to SF tenant protection laws it can take months to get them out, even if they stop paying rent. With our meth-addict-bringing-homeless-in-the-building-to-shoot-heroin-and-turn-tricks-in-the-basement neighbor it took 10 months, 2 different law firms, the unity of most of the building and the police & sheriff's dept to get her out. Hence the difficulties landlords put up to people getting in!

BTW- for good tenants and long term tenants the rental laws are great things, they kept many of us from getting evicted during the .com boom so landlords could charge higher rents to new people. They can also be used by people as stated above, but she was incredibly smart, just completely and utterly fucked up & taking us down with her.

all that, when, a bottle of bleach, one of amonia, and a funnel under the door would do?

Um.

We shared an entire front-to-back common wall in a 1912 Edwardian with her. Your solution would have taken out both of us and our animals as well.

Trust me, we thought of many things... *cough*

I am FREAKING OUT. Another interview - if I can find Skype and figure out how to use it (I don't have internet at home).

A little too much reality...I've been trying to figure out how to move for YEARS, I honestly don't know how I could actually manage it if this really happened.

Unless one of y'all wants to come live in S.C. for a few months and watch my cats, while I find a place to live.

Ack. Ack ack ACK.
