Where is your fire extinguisher?

Ive got several in the shop, one near the hearth and just out side the kitchen between the kitchen and the garage. I keep them at ground level so I can get to them if there is smoke higher up and it is a small fire. Anything bigger than an appliance, single piece of furniture, stove top or any smoke in the attic and I'm out the nearest window or door. I have wired in smoke detectors with separate battery powered ones to back them up and a CO centrally located in the house.

I shake, invert and inspect the gauge on my extinguishers occasionally. I trust the ones that are out of date if I can feel the agent move around when I invert the extinguisher and if the gauge is in the green. I tap on the gauge to make sure the needle is not stuck.

In my safety training for being a merchant mariner the class was told that dry extinguishers on ships should be removed from their holders every two weeks, inverted and hit on the bottom with a rubber hammer. Apparently the vibration of the ship and the motion caused by the waves packs the agent in really tight which can cause improper function when deployed. I think this would be a safe thing to do if you think the agent is packed in the bottom of your extinguisher.

A $5 smoke detecor would've saved their lives. Nuff said.

Also: Sunday... Fall back means check/change your smoke detector batteries.

I forgot to add the golfcart & trailer have fire extinguishers. One on the cart 24/7 and one with the trailer, which is then moved out with the gas cans and tarp when I park at my camp.

Holy smoke Motz, I forgot, must do that rubber mallet tapping while inverted etc etc manitenance or they're often useless. I think I should yank the ones from the trailer and cart and bring them inside during the freezing winter, and give them the same maintenance.
btw, I mounted mine on the walls in the house, mid-body height, because they kept getting buried/hidden by other stuff.

Nipple, my solar atomic g shock watch fucks me over since it does everything (except the housecleaning) I'll rely on an old clock to remind me and do the maintenance fall and spring (and you, lol) please call me @ ###-###-####

My town is still reeling from the deaths of the local couple (& their dog) who died very recently. They were drunk and passed out in bed; the cause of death was asphyxiation. I don't know if they had a smoke/carbon monoxide alarm in the bedroom. I don't think they were too too drunk, and the dog should've barked? I think the carbon monoxide snuck in to the bedroom and killed them, the front 1/2 of the house burned, the bedrooms, all located towards the back of the house did not. (I'll put a new combo unit in the bedrooms at my place, cost is about $30 bucks each)

In the 1980's, candles and a space heater caused 3 seperate, rather serious fire incidents inside the house, after the third time, we nixed using real candles, the wax does a sneaky number A $5 smoke alarm saved us all three times! (still use a space heater a combination alarm for $30 is my next step)

And the deaf They probably use well trained assistance dogs, those combination smoke/carbon monoxide alarms must wake the dog up.

Our house is wired. When we had it built we had hard wired smoke detectors, co2 detectors and a full fancy alarm system put in. The house even has a built in surge protector. To the original question - there is a fire extinguisher in each car, one in the kitchen, one in the garage and one under the counter where the BBQ is. Wow – I’m sure glad I decided to spell check this post. I just came back from having a growler filled and my original spelling was pretty bad - must be the keyboard. The keys keep moving in strange directions.
