I like that last one. It's very appropriate.

OK my conservative friends, I got one for you that's gonna wrinkle my leftist credentials. It's this guy, affectionately known as Mad Dog Mattis.

I don't agree with this guys politics at all, but I like him. He's honest about what he does, and he likes what he does. He likes killing so called "bad guys". If you're gonna fight a war, you need nutsoids like this waging it. (Patton too)Of course, there's been alot of spousal abuse in the military not to mention, the rape scandals at the Air Force Academy. I guess if the general found these guys in his command, he'd shoot them too. When I gave up my NROTC scholarship, my dad wanted me to have a "takin to" with his friend who was a marine corps officer shot in the face at Iwo Jima by a Jap sniper.
He was like this Mattis guy. My mind was too made up to be convinced otherwise.

OK, so here's the point. The left must show more balls like this guy, and we shouldn't be afraid at all to kick in the teeth of right wing liars and hate-mongers. ( figuratively or?) Then I know we'll at least get some grudging respect from you guys. We all like tough guys, no matter what side their on, right?
Love, your friend

The problem comes when people disagree on what are religious and what are political issues. For instance, I think that what people do with their genitalia is their own damned business. I think that people who love each other and want to commit to trying to spend their lives together, they should get the same public benefits regardless of their genders. I think that science should be based on the best observable evidence not on some mythology. I think that an embryo is not a human being, that where science can't determine the moment when an embryo or fetus becomes human that it is up to the judgement of the woman who is pregnant.

And when you push or protect these political beliefs, people scream that you're trampling your religion. Hey, buddy, whatever gets you through the night, but leave me the hell alone.

I guess you could call me a Clinton conservative - balance the budget, increase global trade, don't start any wars you can't finish, don't make people's personal lives your business. These used to be conservative values.

Asking people to believe the better formal arguement without getting to the gut is a losing proposition, because you will never actually persuade and the person on the other end of the discussion will feel bullied and steamrolled.

My two centavos.
Ok, Please tell me I'm misunderstanding you and you're not saying that making choices based on your emotions is always the best method and that you're excusing people who don't use critical thinking as superior to those who are [judgementalism] not as in touch with their feelings [/judgementalism]?

Here, I'll help- what you were trying to do was give strategy tips to those trying to convince others, right?
