Another thing:

To me, this thing is really important. I claim personal responsibility to fucking this whole thing up. While I lounge back in my non-vegan leather chair with diamond inlays, lazily thumbbing through my spare fat wad of Ben Franklins, looking out the window of my corner Penthouse office, complete with beautiful scantily-clad Thai waitresses, listening to Handsome Boy Modeling School through my dual infinity 5.1 THX surround system, I think about the ePlaya. I think about it every day. Some days I want to put fists to silicon like that sweet scene in OfficeSpace where the guy beats up the printer, and some days I want to give the ePlaya a long, sensual massage, shower it with gifts and stuff chocolates into it's mouth.

I realize we blew it by moving the board to phpBB without asking anyone. I realize ya'll got pissed off and thought, "WTF! why don't we just bail and do this the way 'we' want?" I feel like a total asshole any time anyone mentions how fucked up the ePlaya is.

But I also feel that it is my duty to at least try to make things right. This is why I started, immediately after realizing how badly things were fucked up, the ETF team. I started a list. I had meetings. I made an Extranet thing and tried to support people. I tried to get people in to help and work to make it better. But alas, most of the real work fell on the shoulders of myself, Emily and Technopatra. (If you don't see your name here, it's because this list is incomplete, go figure). I gots lots to take care of around here, Marge. I need some help. I need people to interact with this board every day. I need people who love this place to STEP THE FUCK UP and help make it better. Imagine Burning Man in 1996 when it was about to get a serious enema. Did everyone walk away and bitch that it was just not the same, or did people step up and help? Today we have a kick ass event that, I think someone put it well the other day, "Nothing that goes to Burning Man comes back the same". They were talking about equipment, but we laughed and realized it meant everything. People, dogs, cars, tents, even my canopener has never been quite the same. Yeah, you may love BORG2 (or 3 for that matter), and think the art sucked this year, but maybe you saw some of the art that I did and think about how easy it is for people to overlook how difficult something is to do, in favor of looking only at their dissatisfaction with it.

ANYways, I rant. Please come to this meeting tonight however you can. We will be talking about some difficult issues, I might cry, and you won't want to miss that. If you folks don't step up and get involved, it's going to be all over. This is not a threat. There are grumblings from every angle here. "Inside", "outside", 3playa member, not-3playa member, eplayan, LLC, volunteer, whatever...GET OVER IT. Let's fix it or it dies.

flames > /dev/null; participation > /home/brc/
cd /home/brc; make art

i just wanna say that while i am too far away, and my home equipment is from the wrong techno-era, to participate, i am clearly invested in this 'place' and what goes on. i have no major complaints about the board itself, and actually find that if everyone follows the guidelines, things work pretty well. i am mostly just glad that it's here, and that y'all do what ya do to make that so. if i can do anything to help, let me know. i don't have the tech-skills, but i'm here a lot and do have tech-familiarity.

Well Spanky you already know how I feel.

On another note:

Any way that an instant messanger can be used so that those that have one and dont have the IRC and quicktime stuff hooked up or hooked up right, or just cant do the long distance phone call can get included in on this?

(not only that but if I cant get there in time I can still use the mic and speakers cause I'm lazy like that when it comes to typing.)

Yahoo or msn prefered.

the phone call is toll free.

IRC is available in Mozilla. There are also 100's of IRC clients.

YES, I have a Yahoo engineering account which I could set up but it's hard enough to run a meeting, webcast, IRC and phone. In any event, I will do my best to have at least one requested chat protocol available.

I am SpankyFromBRC on AIM and will post the Yahoo info in a moment. (when I find it)

If you are talking about the time on my thingie,

I really cannot figure the dumb thing out. I tried to fix it but the time is not right no matter what I do.
My internal clock is correct though.

Well, the meeting starts at 6:30pm Pacific Time, 9:30pm Eastern Time and would hopefully only go for two hours, but since I've been lighting fires under everyones ass today, it will probably run late.

Spanky, will the notes of the discussion be posted somewhere after? It would be nice to see what was said and have a chance to comment, for those of us who will have a harder time attending tonight's call.

3playa split
huh.

Would'a thunk it.

Care to elaborate on that particular point for those of us that are curious about that?

Damn, I can't make it ... but ... I would like to play!

I have used Debian since before Buzz was born. I am not a web content guy but I am a fairly decent platform guy and network guy. I know bind and exim if you need help with mail and DNS. Mostly I design networks and spend most of my day with routers/switches/load balancers, etc. I do work with some pretty wizzardly MySQL/PHP guys if you have a problem that is just kickin your ass.

I have a bazillion suggestions too ... getting Voodoo chat running would be my first suggestion. That would cut down on the chatter here on the message boards a bit. An integrated chat/message board configuration fosters community. You can also make people chatroom mods with various powers that you decide. It is open source and was on sourceforge last time I looked. http://voc.sourceforge.net/ I can give you a URL of a place that uses it if you want to have a look.

I will try to join the webcast.

The meeting was a great success. We talked about a lot of important issues. It will take me some time to get the notes posted, but stay tuned. Also, look for some development on the board in the near future. We had 3 new PHP/coding people come to the meeting who are interested in working on the boards. Thanks to everyone who watched, attended or contributed in some way. Let's try to make 2005 a great year on the ePlaya!

I think the main thing on everyone's mind is...

When will the 'Explosive Plonk of Firey Death' be implemented?

Well, accordining to the Community Guidelines, posts should stay on topic ;) and this is definitely way off topic.

OK, so I'm guilty of thread drift!! (and possibly inappropriate behavior) Suspend my account!! ;)

No, really. I'd like to end this thread and start fresh discussion on the topic at hand. Maybe in Feedback?

DVD, considering what was said indirectly about you last night I'd hold off on any compliments. A couple of eplayans seem to have the admin team's wrath and you are on the top of the list. If you don't believe that, wait for the mp3 of the meeting to come out.

raster
a scan pattern (as of the electron beam in a cathode-ray tube) in which an area is scanned from side to side in lines from top to bottom

is that what you meant? I am a bit confused.
