Sorry for not using the full words again, Yggy was right, GLC is the Global Leadership Conference, which used to be known as the regional summit. It's covered a fair bit in the Burning Blog over the last couple weeks if you want to know more, but in a nutshell it's regional contacts coming in from all over the world. There are meetings and workshops and discussion panels and opportunities for people in different groups to connect and socialize and share ideas. This is the 8th year of the event, and the first one since 'the transaction' (also covered in the blog a bit). It's an exciting things, with bonus points for including ePlaya in some way :-)

One the edge. Would be a better pic if the other guy wasn't in it. Yes, that is the rim of the Grand Canyon, no viewing platform, no guardrails, just the edge, and gravity.

Elorrum's magic! Great shot of you two on the edge.

the Grand Canyon is one of my favorite places on earth. My son and I rafted down it from Lee's Ferry to Lake Mead many years ago. I was traveling the country a great deal in those years and every time I flew over the Canyon I had to write him a letter. It was surely one of the peak experiences of my life.

This forum makes me feel so young, suddenly my playa name feels appropriate. Ordinarily, I swear, I feel like I'm too old for the rest of my life.

Awesome, AntiM! You're standing in the picture on the Permian-aged Kaibab Limestone. I could give you the whole stratigraphy, but there's no point in me doing so.

Greetings and best wishes to all!

Yay for photoshop!

Limestone? The red rock isn't sandstone? Learn something new every day!

We are going up Snow Canyon, then up into the Dixie Forest today.

Awesome pic, AntiM, I love it! When I moved across the country in 2002 I spent 2 1/2 days at the canyon... I stayed a night on the south rim and then drove all the way around and stayed a night on the north rim too (and hiked/climbed down about halfway). In retrospect I wish I would have stayed a week, but I was trying to keep a schedule for some silly reason. Beautiful from every angle.

The Canyon (I'm sticking with the Edward Abbey convention of giving it a capital 'C' because there's no place on earth quite like it) is like that, Trilo. Beautiful from every angle. You're in a special place there. Can you imagine the awe that John Wesley Powell and his companions felt descending the Canyon (1869) in wooden rowboats? They had to portage over rough spots to avoid destroying the boats. They started out at the confluence of the Green River and Colorado River in Wyoming in modern-day Green River, WY. Now a park called 'Expedition Island', I went through there last in 2010 on the way out to Burningman.

I was last at the bottom in 1984. We backpacked down the South Kaibab trail and came back up the Bright Angel Trail, staying two nights at Phantom Ranch. Since then, other places have been a little more important to visit.

If you come and have time and energy in San Francisco, I'd love to see you.

Or... Since Fishy can't go to the Hof... Meet up in Sacramento, anyone?

The plans are far from definite, Fishy, but I'm thinking of taking a week to enjoy the Hof and then visit friends in Reno, Fremont, Oakland and SF. Seeing you is definitely on the list.

Natural curiosity had those numbers into maps and reminded me of a weekend on the shore of a lake somewhere up there.
Be damned if I can remember which one, but the folks we visited had a cabin that belonged to their parents...
Guy was seriously into fishing that lake.
Said they couldn't drive all the way in the winter, had to ski.
Frikkin beautiful area.

A meetup in the bay area wouldn't be terrible, either. They've got that Participation Picnic going on at Golden Gate Park in June, on the 21st (weekend before the Hof). It's done as a potluck, with BMHQ picking up a bunch of the basics (stuff to make fire, condiments, etc). Free, fun, and weird. Being a couple weeks later in June means the weather may be a bit warmer too.

Huzzah and hooray to the Hof party date! We'll do our damnedest.

What a great rockstar pic of Larry, AntiM.

Also, big-ol congrats to long-time ePlayans MisaBlue and Scotto, who have just been named to the meta-regionals committee. I'm sure a blog post blowing that horn a bit louder (and also explaining what a meta-regionals committee is) will be forthcoming, but it's exciting to see ePlayans doin' good. Drinks all round!!!
