Curse you west coast folks. I may never know the sweet embrace of the Hof.

I now settle for the terrifying visage of the Hoff.

Greeting all, hope every one had a great weekend. Warm and sunny here in Northern Nevada.

Is that a picture from Google earth of the HOF?
So, being kinda of a newb here on eplaya, what is the HOF?
I think it belongs to Ygmir, and is located near Bowmen lake in california.
Also, what is happening on June 28th, or is it a secret?

Ygmir's yurt-shaped cabin in the mountains, still in progress. Gathering of ePlayans. He'll tell you about it shortly, I'm sure.

And hey....! Ygmir and LooneyTunes are scheduled to visit my Kinetic Barn in Clearlake tomorrow! (Is it tomorrow? I'll have to double check. I'm a bit groggy from loading broken concrete into my pickumup. And washing the dust and sweat down with beer.)

Oh.... Fernely1 and others.... In general, a "hof" or "hov" is a pagan temple in the days of the Vikings.

(And yes, Ygmir and LooneyToones are coming here tomorrow, to pick up the baby grand piano.)

Fernley1,
the hof is yggys compound (mwahaha) at bowman lake. A hof party is being planned for the 28th. I'm sure you are welcome to come. It's a great get together, everybody brings a bunch of food and booze and music and fire.
There are spots to camp on his property the lake is just a short hike. Join us!

Hi gang! so yeah, said "good bye" to a friend today. dang.
And I realized something, I'm sure others know this, but, well it hit me:
A funeral, is for the living, and for the most part, to share stories and memories of the departed, and to make thier fmaily feel, people loved them as much and share the loss. But, another part to it, is "showmanship" and that pisses me off......to the point I didn't go to the ceremony, but spend time thinking and smiling, of good times had. There was no one there I cared to see. His family did not know me, and with hundreds there, I'd not be missed.
So, I did mine, alone, and feel good for it. I don't think I could have abided the posers...........

and yeah, Hof party, June 28 weekend. ALL are welcome, no secret here. Love to see ya fernley1!

haha yeah FJ, concrete and 1/4" plate steel roof umbrella.
Well, VC, if you can get to Reno or Sacramento, I'm sure you can get a ride there. you don't need to bring stuff.

@Joeln: there are dozens of lakes in the general area. I'd say your visit was not Bowman, I have the only private piece of property that close to the lake. But, there are many around, so, you were probably close.

Off to see Elliot tomorrow!! yay!! just being around him has got to make me smarter!!

I almost always feel compelled to get up and speak at a funeral when they ask if anybody wants to come up and say something about the departed.

When it comes to public speaking I don't enjoy it and am really somewhat shy. But at funerals, if I have a funny/sweet antidote I feel compelled to share. I think the family enjoys hearing these little stories.

I'm not bragging about any ability to make anybody feel better. Just sharing my compelling oddness :?

Hi 420!! ha, quote of the day: " Just sharing my compelling oddness " you could replace "wonderfullness" for odness and still ring true, though.

well, off to see Elliot soon. Just have to check the concrete base I poured for a nice stone I made the other day.
old pioneer family, they are all buried in one of the cemeteries here, but no one knows where, so, they are just placing the stone near the gate......kinda cool, parents born in the early 1800's.

and, got a call from a pioneer cemetery in the area, needing some restoration work........so yay that. it's so interesting.

once, we were fixing up a cemetery, way up in the hills, and it was near a creek. We got there first thing in the spring, to check on what we were going to do, and, one guys hand was sticking out of the bank, where flood waters had gotten a little close.......I was about 10, so, more intrigued than scared.........haaha.

It's not odd. The family appreciates it, in most cases, I'm sure.

Pardon me while I shed a tear or two. I'm reminded of what happened to Poet. She was probably one of the most kind-hearted individuals I'd ever had the chance to influence in my life. I was the fire safety officer for a fire performance arts group in Columbia that performed at various venues across Missouri.
Poet was one of our performers, and I got a call from one of our members one afternoon that she had been in a head-on automobile accident, hit coming over the crest of a hill by a drunk driver who was texting. She was the fraternal twin of Redneck, another one of our performers. Redneck was at Camp Lejeune at the time, and it was a holiday weekend. There was no time for the base to get their charitable services up and running before the following Tuesday, and Redneck had to get home. I paid for his plane ticket, and he made it back.

At the visitation, I asked her mother if I could memorialize her at the Temple in BRC when I went that summer. She said yes. I wrote new words to an old hymn from the Civil War era and sang the hymn a cappella when I was there. I wrote the words and gave the song to her mother, who genuinely appreciated all that I had done. It was the least I could do. Poet was a positive memory in my life and I'll treasure her friendship for the rest of my days.

I'm sorry for your loss, Yggy. Now you're starting to come around to the irish way of thinking when it comes to death and funerals. Almost every religion or belief system operates under the notion that from here, the good ones go someplace better. And those that don't believe something like that think that it's just the end, which means no (more) suffering, which is a comfort in its own right. So if you think about it, grief (and the showmanship) is all just a selfish thing we put ourselves through, because we miss the dearly departed. That's where the notion of the irish wake comes, and I think it's a good way to do it. Throw a big party, get pissed/drunk, and share your stories. That was one of the main driving forces for me, back when I used to steal the temple on Wednesday night.

Whew, what a weekend. The global leadership conference ran from Thursday to Sunday night, and man am I beat. Last year Burning Man had invited me to attend the opening reception, Spark premiere, and another sort of mixer gathering so I could be welcoming and say hello's and generally evangelize the message board to those who had an interest, and this year they invited me to participate in the whole durned thang. What's more, they invited me to participate in a panel (along with Rei Dishon from mid-burn and Dave McLean/DiverDave from Second Life's Burn2), and to help cover the event as one of the "Voices Of Burning Man" (I helped run the twitter feed, and took some notes I'll hopefully be formulating into a blog post). The days began early and ran fairly long, but were action-packed. Great sessions, plus great to get to talk and connect with people from all over the world (roughly half of all the regional contacts make it to the event, plus there are other key people from their regions who are able to join in). The sessions cover anything from the nuts and bolts of event planning and logistics to forward thinking sessions about building maker cities and how to affect change in the world year-round. Like the playa, there was far more awesome stuff going on than you could ever hope to get to, but there weren't any bad choices and then conversations about what you took in or what someone else was involved with made for great conversations in the gaps and during the social times. My head is swimming with great ideas. The panel I was in went well too, and I think that next year HQ will take the next steps and there will be a session on ePlaya (getting more regional participation in here would be awesome).

Good evening all. Beautiful day here again in Northern Nevada.

Trilobyte, thanks for all the updates about the global leadership conference. I find them very interesting.

Ygmir, wow, the HOF pictures on that photobucket site are amazing. I love the Bowmen /Jackson meadows Lake area.

I can report that Ygmir and Looneytunes both looked happy and healthy when they visited here today. They should be home by now -- unless they dropped the grand piano in the road along the way and are still picking up splinters and strings. If all goes well, the piano will wind up in the on-Playa staff lounge (bar, yes) for the GP&E department. Seems there is a real piano-person in the group. :D

Hey Yggy! I am at another castle on the 21st, and thanks to the Hof being a week later, I might be able to join you again!

Yes, funerals are for the living. And mostly for a community to mourn safely together.

Tonight, I went back to the hot tub where I met Toshi. Sat in the spot where she held court like a queen. One of her old friends recognized me. It was nice.

I guess I can have some home made ume-shu now.
It's sweet and crazy tasty. Will anyone care to join me?

Now that I see the begging start, I was very lucky to be gifted the purchase of an extra ticket so early.
Many of them make little or no effort to communicate who they are/their worthiness...
Seems that even an earnest, self reliant wanna-be could get lost in those hordes.

@Ygmir: I looked at all those construction pix - outstanding!
Wish there was a measurable chance I'll ever get to see the place.

@Dougly: Never had that stuff but I'm instantly tempted!

Good on you, Joeln, getting gifted a ticket!

It all comes back at ya....pay it forward, we do.

I got my 'golden ticket' to the Midwest regional, Interfuse, a couple of weeks ago. I also picked up an extra for a friend. When she found out, she was thrilled. And I got her started right. I had her attend ranger training with me two weekends ago. It's my 7th stint as an Interranger, it's her first. Volunteering and giving back, that's what it's all about.

Glad you got the piano back in one piece, Yggy. Reminds me of a story.....a man in Tennessee was carrying a piano in his wagon up the mountains to a small church, and it fell off. Everything worked great, except he dented the middle C key. Today, when it's played, there are two b-flats side by side!
I know. Not funny.

Dougly, thanks for the links on ume-shu. Turns out there is a commercial brand or two out there. Just curious, though....what's the alcohol you use to make it? Sake? Something stronger?

Have to go to a charity function tomorrow night, but it gives me an excuse to leave early today to get my hair done.

In the meantime, asshole partner is still an asshole, but I've been given license to shoot back.

The only problem is, he's stopped emailing me since I so grossly offended him. I have a conference call today with him, so I can gently push some more buttons.
