Hey anybody want a BLT? I have the last of my tomatoes here. Drawingablank airlifted in some homegrown bacon and Patsh made a few loaves of fresh bread. Has anyone seen MyDearFriend? She was supposed to bring lettuce picked this morning. Oh well, let's just start with what we have. I'll have some JD Fire and a pint of Angry Orchard Green apple. How about you?

Yeah, comp shingles. I've see a few metal roofs here in town, but given the type of house and eventual resale value (ha), a shingle roof makes sense. Not a lot of wildfire danger in this particular suburb.

yeah, you probably don't have a particular snow load? and, good comp. shingles last over 20 years. I get that.

Rain, glorious rain!! Started last night and is still going. Not very heavy, but raining it is. Morning Anti M. Belated Happy Birthday ASD. Far too much rain in some places and far too little in others. Hey how about building a pipe line for water. Call it Keystone H20?????

The BM Art Department lost its Heart and Soul last week with the termination of Bettie June's position after 10 years of incredibly dedicated and enormously effective service. She was a superb and beloved leader. ARTery volunteers like me are mourning her loss. How BM management could not see a way to integrate this precious resource into its plans rather than cutting her out is a major mystery to me and virtually all of those who know what she has done for the Art Department, colleagues, volunteers, and artists alike. A very sad loss for Burning Man and all of us who have loved it and worked for it. The times they are a-changing :( :( :(

Good Morning Dear Bar !

Fabulous Rain is here.

Halloween was so grand a time.Danced and am still dancing as I know what will happen if I stop.
I went as a burner and was chastised for not being in a costume !
But hey I am a natural and I continue even with more years/gears of confusion
Yes Marty , we go on and I agree with you.

Actually I will agree with anything some of you say and do.
Your roof is perfect Yggy.

yep, raining here. It's a day off, and I'm thinking it might be a good day to tackle the learning curve on a new video game and eat soup. (no, probably not at the same time.)

or watch a movie in surround sound since all the neighbors are at work. BBBBBOOOOOOOOMMM!!!!!

either way, there's going to be a subwoofer involved.

My house is cinderblock with a yellow brick veneer. As are the other houses on the block, with a few with terrible siding. Metal on brick justs looks a little too industrial in this setting. We do get snow, but nothing too ferocious. The wind micro-bursts are more of a problem, and we will be warrantied for that for 20 years. Our current roof is three shingles deep on one side, and two on the other, and probably 40 years old.

Once they get to three layers here, the law requires we strip the roof and start over.

Hope you can avoid THAT!!! :?

Nope, roof will be taken down to sheeting/decking (I've heard it called both). Replacing THAT is included in the estimate, and if it is still okay, then we pay less. House was built in 54, so probably needs new bones.

Hey bar crowd. Great to see a smiling face. I'll just have a kahlua and cream. There's no alcohol or calories in that, right? I was busy plonking but wow! I feel so much better now. It probably saved me from being unladylike. Oooo there's a kitty in the corner. Who's cat is that? And who's GOAT is that? Seriously? A goat in the bar! Oh well. Scoot over. Can I feel your beard?

Hi All Rain lasted a very short time, but felt good to hear the swish of the wipers on the windshield. Load of lightning and thunder for a while there with very dark clouds over in the East Bay near Concord. Think the storm came down from Middletown and Napa when I caught it.

Rain here, too!
Went to Prescott and back through alot of rain, and couldn't resist wiping down the car, once it was in the garage.
After all, the bugs were pre-soaked and softened, and yet MORE Playa dust had managed to streak all over the place.

Also used the opportunity to (finally) remove the roof rack from the car. Haven't needed it since the burn. Looks like most of that dust was hiding under those brackets.

Finally --- Rain in this area of the country also.

The last rain was in mid-July and my last mowing of the front meadow was in the first week of August. In most years, I am usually mowing every two weeks until just before Christmas. I thought that my July mowing might have been my last for the year.

The bream pond was down to its last two feet of water. Although I have an aerator in the pond and I had not seen any dead fish floating, I was afraid that it was going to lose my main source of spring and summer protein. The fish had ceased eating their fish food. This is not uncommon in the dead of winter, but for this time of year, it is very unusual for them to cease eating.

However, weekend before last, I received 6" of rain in two days and this last weekend, I received another 3". Although the pond is now back up to the level of the drain pipe, the fish have not begun eating their fish food.

In just the last week, the grass in the front meadow looks like it has jumped 6". As nice as it was to not have to mow, it looks like I am back in the mowing business. And, as long as I see no dead fish floating, as soon as they recover they will begin eating and so will I.

how's the burn area handling the rain over there, Elliot?

I'm heading to the Hof today, to winterize things. Looks like maybe a dusting of snow there the other day, and possibly more this weekend. yay that.

seasonal change her for sure! Snow on the mountains. I blinked, and missed autumn. Maybe it will come back?
ygmir, be safe, and light a big fire in the stove if you have the time. A midweek hof trip would suit me fine.

I was going to go to the dmv today, and get my car registered, transfer plates, etc. I thought getting there early would be o.k. for the wait, they put you on a message list and text you on your phone, but sitting in my car waiting would be very cold today, and sitting in there waiting would be yuck. I might still go, if I don't want to, I suppose there's a lot of other folks who don't want to either. I have time to still do it next week, and hope for better weather. It looks like you can only make an appointment for the driver's license. I'll do more research, laundry, and go to the car dealer and get my roof rack put on instead. Plus Simon sidetracked me with photoshop activities in the mono lisa multiverse.
