as long as we have keys to the tractor, we don't need your keys.

True.
Of course, for anything smaller than a 8000-series tractor, Deere has exactly 9 total keys... and I have 8 of them.
You wouldn't have a Deere, would ya?

So, this "Tengo Nuevo" cd I found on the street is actually pretty good. But listening to is all at once is likely to be a bit much...
But it'll be killer on shuffle with 100 other albums...

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Misa, thanks for the brekie. My cardiologist needs the business! Roark got it right. Hi Anti M, hope it's warming up a bit. Weather here is in the 60's and beautiful and sunny by about 10:00 AM. MDF, I am so damned envious of the Reno/Gerlach trip and party. We'll want a complete ... well, almost complete ... report on the doings. Sorry that I'll miss seeing you and the gang. We'll do a make up, maybe at the Hof.

I'm not on most of the FB birthday apps. This year I feel old, ugh.
I did have a nice lunch with Larry before he hit the road. Had something called a Tiki Torch Margarita. Yummers.

Not a meaningful distinction. Men with good tools generally know how to use them.ygmir wrote:hydraulic impact breaker? Are military deuce and halfs made with keys? Most military vehicles (tanks and tracks) don't require a key start...ygmir wrote:well, dang, no.........I've had Deeres, backhoe and loader. but now have Case and Bobcat. both take a screwdriver.......keys won't work, so, I know the thieves will be thwarted!!Roark wrote:True.

nope, at least the older ones like I have, don't have keys, most tactical vehicles don't.Ugly Dougly wrote:Are military deuce and halfs made with keys? Re: The Bar, Volume #4
*the town idiot comes shuffling into the Bar, once again dragging along a stray animal. This time it is an injured bird. It seems likely that the little furball will go the way of the last lost critter – a newborn kitten which died*
Well, now, see…. I get out of bed around 07:45, crank up the furnace and pull the curtain from the glass door. Out there, in the thick frost on the ground, is a bird, flailing violently about – maybe two birds, mating? But too frosty for that, it would seem. Struggling again, wing over wing, ass over applecart, then still. Completely still for a long time. I’m thinking it is stuck in a fishing line, plastic bag or such.
I get dressed, put on gloves and goggles and go out.
The bird is now upright on the ground, but with tail-feathers sharply off to one side, beak hanging open as in exhaustion. Turns out it is not stuck, but there are torn feathers, bare skin, and a speck of blood just in front of the left wing.
Ah, here comes the culprit, The Cat. Queen Cat belongs to a neighbor, but does not know that. To Cat, everything belongs to Her. Specially birds, mice, lizards and bugs (and Yours Truly). She rarely kills them, but plays with them until they are no longer able to flee, then she walks calmly away, splendidly victorious, yet merciful.
Now she sits a few feet away, looking anywhere but at the bird in my hands. The poor bird must be terrified witless. I walk out of the shadow and hold the bird in the sun to warm up. She keeps her beak closed now, perhaps no longer quite so exhausted. I study the garage roof and other places where I might install the bird to rest and warm up, but Cat can get anywhere. And I cannot stand there all day.
So I take the bird inside and arrange a towel on the floor sort’a like a nest. I provide breadcrumbs and water, even though I know she is too frightened to worry about such. Once in a while she flaps her right wing, but not the left.
Arch enemy Cat appears on the outside of the glass door, no doubt nullifying any progress we have made. I close the curtain.
There is no telling if the injury is survivable. If the wing is kaput, she’ll never make it and I must “put her to sleep”. But what she needs most right now is rest and safety.
I start typing this – watching the bird over my shoulder every few seconds. And I make hot chocolate for myself, and whatnot. The bird turns her head occasionally, as if studying the terrain, but otherwise does not move.
But after a while… suddenly the bird has walked about eight inches. I watch intently. There she goes again, making a beeline towards deep cover under furniture.
I pick her up and go out on the porch and put her down at the edge. A few seconds pass… then she takes off, both wings working perfectly, and flies straight to a thin branch in the Mulberry tree. In the sun, and safe from Cat.
That concludes this Sunday morning’s sermon. Coffee and doughnuts in the vestry.
