Hi Everyone!

Sounds like we are all busying around and looking forward to a big week. While you guys are camping and dining together I will be in Fort Worth for the birth of my granddaughter! She is scheduled to arrive Tuesday morning!

I have tomorrow to get my current projects a little further along before I head East and then it will be Nana time.

Let's all watch out for the idiot drivers on the road and meet back here safe and sound with stories to share!

Congrats, Sadie!

*clinks glass with MDF* cheers - our old neighborhood was all like that. Where we live now is more removed from the action. But it's adjacent to the amazing (yet evil) big new medical centers being built (the ones that booted Burning Man from their old 3rd street digs), and turning into a hot neighborhood. A year ago that same walk would have yielded 3-4 worthwhile stops.

Damn, last night's shindig at Hudzo's was wonderful, and it was nice to spend time with him and chat with awesome people and see Charon and Even Deeper (the divers from 2004) running (under electric power no less). It's a shared workspace too, so packed in along with was Katy's Heartfulness piece, Marco's big Truth Is Beauty was laying in pieces in the corner while he's already been very hard at work for the third installment for 2015, The mighty Heart Deco/Heart Phoenix was set up with its giant wings too, and even Cubatron was hanging from the rafters. I'll post pics later, I woke up late and had to race out the door to catch the train to get to Maker Faire. The weather is proving perfect, the heat wave seems to have broken but it's still clear and warm enough to be comfy outside all day. Well, til early afternoon, then we'll probably need to get going (but will be back tomorrow). For anyone who'll be there, I'll be the guy in white shirt, suspenders and tophat, probably drooling on art and machines or stuffing funnel cakes in his mouth. :D

I ran into a few wonderful burners and friends today at Maker Faire, including The CO!!! He's a pretty accomplished CNC designer and artists, and turns out he was able to get his company to send him up to the event to check things out and represent. He tells me he'll be back again tomorrow too, and hopefully OregonRed will be joining him.

In addition to our favorite giant fire-breathing octopus, Duane and the El Pulpo crew brought a really amazing kinetic powered dragon paddle-boat. Really stellar work, they looked like they were having a lot of fun and drawing crowds of excited people all day. I love the reaction of the Defaultians when they see (and feel) a really big blast from all the jets going off, that amazing sense wonder and amazement among kids and grown-ups alike. By late afternoon, there was a long line of all ages waiting to get a chance to go into the Nautilus steampunk sub MV. Line-wise, the majority of the event was pretty manageable. Lines for the ladies room were universally longer than for men, but we discovered a pro tip - near the south lot there's a big bank of porta-potties with no line at all on the outside of the big building.

We got home and found we had just enough time to race on over to the fabric store, we wanted to grab some materials to make something to wear to the upcoming Monsters & Elves thing (and then take with us to the playa). That place can be dangerous, but we had our blinders on to stay focused on the two pieces in question and managed to come back with very nearly everything we need. One material we'll need to order online, but it should be here in plenty of time. I also still need to source buttons, they only had a couple left of the style and color I wanted. If I don't find them online, I'll ring them up to see if they can order them in for me.

And now we're off to see the big monster destroy SF...

I just got back from the Maker's fair too. It was my first time so WOW! There is way too much to describe it to my husband. I saw fabulous clothes at one sellers booth. It made me wonder about all those poor costumers that sold at the Prepare for the Playa sale. We don't have that venue anymore. That must have hurt. the fair was far and pricey but I'm so glad I went.

Thanks Everyone, for the well wishes!

The Maker Faire sounds incredible. Trilo, all that art...so cool. And Ratty...I'll bet it was somewhat overwhelming to see for the first time. From what I have read and observed you should probably have a booth there with your fabulous costume creations!

I managed to get the house in decent (enough) shape so Stella's keepers won't run screaming away when they come by to take care of her, and in between chores got some playa piles organized and such.

So I'll pour up everyone's choice, and put my feet up to see if SNL is funny this week...

Also back from Maker Faire -- where Ratty found me standing in a food line. Not worth the long drive for me just to be there a few hours as a spectator, but my friend had not been before so it was worth it for her.

Duane Flatmo had that dragon, and another similar one, on the Playa several years before he built El Pulpo. Without the amphibious gear, of course.

*clinks glasses with Elliot, sadie, Ratty, trilo and anyone else who might be wandering by...*

I've never been to a Maker Faire, either. One of those things that actually could happen, one of these years. I'd never been to a Renaissance Fair, either, until good ole FIGJAM invited me a couple of years ago. (One of the wonderful things about 'local' burners!!)

Had a fantastic day today, riding with about 80 or so other bikes and trikes... the 19th annual Jester Run around our beautiful valley. Totally sunburned face, but I don't care. The Jester Run honours all our fallen riders of the past year. Seems to be mostly (fucking) cancer that's getting us these days. Dang. C'est la vie... c'est le mort aussi. Meanwhile, we get to see all these cool friends, and ride all day. (We'd still have the Jester Run if we hadn't lost anyone.)

The First Mate and I will join ya'. Up here in Seattle we only have a "Mini Maker's Faire", nothing like the Bay Area one at all. I don't even bother with it.

I must say, the rides out on the Playa on your boat were some of my best experiences there. Even when there was trouble with the boat. Thanks!

Yes capt and 1st mate, you will be sorely missed. I LOVED seeing your boat glide by at night. (You did a great job on the lighting). Gamin wench I petted those twins yesterday and spoke to a nice lady about them.
Sadie, My stuff goes in a cheap sale for poor burners. I try to re-coop my costs. That makes it a hobby. But...I saw some $130 skirts and vests yesterday and I may make a couple just because. My sewing is like paint by number. The fun is in the 'doing' not the 'owning'.

Morning, Al and YG. Enjoyed the Makers Faire the last 2 years, but it is just too much to do again this year. It really is fun seeing Defaultians seeing Burner Art for the first time. My son and I went over to American Steel in Oakland last weekend and I was really blown away by the art that is being done over there and in that neighborhood.

Get to see MDF, Elorrum and ASD later this morning and maybe Fishy as well.

Cheers

Morning everyone! Sounds like everyone is having a pretty great weekend. I've been making decorations for Monsters and Elves. It's getting close...crunch time. Those of you living close by should try and make it. Here's a link to the shenanigans

Good Morning All !

Already revved for the day; which always begins with the change from night sound to day sounds, today about 5:45
It is something a musician taught me years ago

Finally will see MDF , and Fishy and the Elorrum as soon as Marty says go.

Meanwhile I have baked cookies and wrapped UCB graduation gifts and rather than sanding an ancient box for my son's B'day I just "Murphy's" oiled it.
a full day of wonderful

I had a fun day today. Decided to visit the Generator in Reno, Nv. and ended up working 4 hours on the embrace2014 artwork.
The embrace artwork is going to be huge, and is going to look awesome on the playa.

A great way to spend time fernley1. From the concept images I've seen, it will be remarkable! Are they planning on burning it?

..and Woohoo! for Elorrum and MDF's great adventure!

I spent most of the weekend outdoors, which is the way I prefer, especially when the weather is nice like it's been. Still cutting dead trees, and formulating where to plant new ones, taking into consideration the path of the sun among remaining trees as well as how I imagine wanting to interact in the space, future bonfire location, seclusion from the hustle and bustle.. sort of a landscape architecture project.

Hopefully all of you had a great weekend. Makers Faire sounds great! Any pictures?

..and congratulations Sadie!

Well, another weekend drawing to a close..
Goodnight all!
