I'll tell you about my "spiritual transformation" at Burning Man. I was on the wrong path of holding myself back my first Burning Man. Holding back my shit that is. I sat on that cigar for about two days.

While pissin' at one of the dirty, no-toilet paper, banks of portapotties in the mid-playa came a moment of epiphany: I knew that my pants would transcend into a big-mess-out-the-ass if I fully let myself go piss. I couldn't truly release myself because of what I was holding back. Taking this new knowledge to heart, I interrupted the stream like a belch interrupts a stream of consciousness and was fortunate enough to amble my way back to the safety of one of the inner-city houses of deep thought and door-graffiti reading. There, lit only by headlamp, I released my spiritual awakening on the port-o-throne.

The door slammed behind me as I left that sanctuary, relieved, content, and a few pounds lighter. I came to understand one of the fundamental precepts of the universe: that you shouldn't hold your shit for a couple days at the burn thinking that you'll be able to avoid it somehow. Shitting, like change, is inevitable. It is a transformation from comfort to discomfort. It is a process of "letting go." It's best learned early, preferably after the toilets have been cleaned in the morning when it isn't quite hot yet.
