I'm not looking for help, because I am not gonna do it. I figured I would toss the idea out there and if someone was searching for ideas for a project or something, maybe they could run with it. I worked for over a week on-playa on a project last year, every single day. This year I will be sticking close to camp, doing camp stuff, interacting with the locals.

Trying to work on some personal stuff and a plan to move. Things change from day to day and I have my good days as well as bad. But I think I'm heading in the right direction anyways and that's a good thing.
Hee! Yellowtail isn't too bad. I'm glad to hear you are moving up in the world.
Ooo, I may have some metal crafty questions for you soon as I'm starting to brainstorm about a project for the playa this year and could probably use your help. Granted, I'm still in the early stages of this idea. But I have a feeling that you may know some useful, pertinent information that could help me.

Ahhhh... so the relationship goes well, yes? Nice.
I visited The City after the last Burn and fell in love with it. Had some damn good sushi. Great vibe. I really liked Sausalito, too. But damn... expensive to live there, though I suspect you know that already.

The economy out here is doing a lot better than it had been. One thing I would mention to anyone ever thinking of moving here is to take a good look at housing costs. It's expensive to find a place to live here compared to other regions of the country. Comparable to NYC, Boston, or Washington DC. A couple of local newspaper websites:
http://www.sfgate.com/ San Francisco Chronicle
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/ San Jose Mercury News
There's also lots of stuff on Craigslist for places to rent or share.

Yep, I just got back from visiting SF, went for the first few days of March. Had a fabulous time visiting, wandering and seeing friends.
I am aware of the expense of the city. But my current frame of mind is that any city can be expensive if you don't live within your means. For example, I lived alone in Minneapolis in a studio apartment that I spent over half of my monthly earnings on. I racked up credit card debt and stayed in a job that only paid my seven dollars an hour.
I intend to find a roomate and hopefully a decent job and will probably not take my car and plan to use public transportation. Also, I plan to live within my means.

Hey La Chat!
I keep telling her that she needs to rent one of those cool "penthouse" modular apartments at the shipyard. http://www.theshipyard.org/

Oh yeah, so like the other thing...
Once you've totally mastered the Craigslist housing thing, you get to see the places that stay vacant forever (and understand why), you also see the places with a lot of turn-over, and you get good at "reading between the lines" and figuring out what's really going on with the people renting these places.
SF is the weirdest housing market I've ever seen. In LA it seems like rents are based on location, square footage, amenities and such. In SF, rents are so unrelated to any of those things due to rent control. It's amazing to find a really nice place in a decent neighborhood for $400 with a washer/dryer and your own bathroom, then look at a dive in a crummy hood for $850. It makes NO sense!
