Don't know about duck but geese have a bite you wont forget.. We had then in the strawberry patch.. They would not eat the strawberry.. They ate the "quackgrass" between the plant.. The damn geese would put the run on the dog and I or any thing else that approached.. Would not even look up when grandmother picked the berries..

While on my way to work yesterday afternoon a tornado watch was in effect for Lyon, Storey and Washoe counties in Nevada. When I got to work around 6:20pm a few of us stood in the parking lot at work looking to the east at the clouds in the Canoe Hill direction. We could see a rotation in the clouds but no actual funnel. Supposedly a funnel was spotted further east near Patrick and McCarren Hill area near I-80 about the same time we were in the parking lot.

Cloud rotation is just the beginning here. I live in Tornado Alley, with Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas having their share as well. The damn things can be terrifying, so we watch the skies any time there's 'severe' weather forecast. I was behind an all-steel door with a little wire window in one corner when a tornado hit west Columbia, Missouri in 1990 and saw when the funnel came down within 50 feet of the ground near where I was. It ripped the roof off a Pizza Hut, snaopped billboards in two, skipped over the Interstate, and disassembled a gazebo and a picket fence before my eyes. And that one rated an F2.

The one in Joplin was an F5. Wrath of God, as said in the movie "Twister".

Imagine my surprise this year when they linked tornadoes not just to atmospheric cyclonic movements, but now, volcanic pyroclastic flows. Video from where they picked it up first at Sinabung volcano in Indonesia:

If you ever (and I sincerely hope you don't) find yourself in the path of one of these bastards, get to a place where you can take cover. Jump in a bathtub and cover youself with a mattress. Dive into a ditch. You DON'T want to face debris flying. Tornadoes cause a sudden raise in air pressure that can put a broomstraw through a two by four. Stay away from windows.

Please, do it for me.

Whew... crazy busy today. Points of ePlaya interest include the new drone policygoing live, and updated info in the scammer/scalper thread.

I also had a moment of feeling fancy today, I got my picture taken by the illustrious John Curley. Man, I love that guy's work, he's got a really great eye. We usually get to spend a little time together on the playa, but I hadn't seen or talked to him since middle of the week last year. It was nice to get to chat a bit and tell him how much I really loved all his pics from the saucer build last year, and that I was looking forward to seeing this year's nonsense. Man, I caught him just in time, he's packing up and heading out to the playa THIS WEEKEND. We're coming up on golden spike, fences, roads, and many many many amazing and ridiculous things getting built out in the desert.

On the subject of pics, I still have to go through my pics from the campout I was on over the 4th. I got some goodies in there too, I think. I'd spend time working on that now, but I think it's time to step away from the computer and head over to the bar. Drinks all round! :D

Sick as a dog. Woke up this morning with a scratchy throat and I'm in full on cold now.

Which for me means, SANGRIA!!!

I leave in 30 days. I was going to give up on the flip side of my dog tags, and then the generosity of another burner has me dedicated to getting as many done as I can.

The good news is I'm down to two and only two projects. As long as I don't get distracted, I might be able to pull this off.

Yes... A martini made with chilled, high quality vodka, slightly dirty, two olives, and get the vermouth bottle out and pose it nearby but don't actually get any if it in the glass!

Elliot, when you're serious (and clothed)you look like a grizzled 18th century sea captain. I'm so tempted to scribble on that photo.

Great picture.

My cold is a little better this morning and the dog tags are back under production, so I might actually make this happen.

Wickedly awesome thunderstorm rolling through here this morning.

Sadly I'm at work, not sitting on the front porch at home. I'm sure my kitties are scared to death and all bundled up under the pillows on my bed :(
