Done.

Oooohhhh yes!! I love you! Just tell me what I gotta do!
Show up.
I expect to be on 5:00, between G and H. Look for the bus with eyes painted above the windshield, seen in my signature line.

It is two minutes past my bedtime. G'nite.

Morning all. Lovely lightning storm last night, but no rain so it's a little cooler but the air is still thick and humid. It has me yearning for the cool dry early morning air in Black Rock City.

This cold has me wishing I could stay home today. I might actually check out ea bit early. But don't worry Yggy, I'll be healthy and totally disease free in time for the M&G.

Karine and LeChat will be back?? WOO HOO!!!!!

Fishy, from me......I will most definitely miss you. May fair winds fill your sails, and may the waters be calm and warm for your life's journey.

Yesterday's field time gets repeated today, though in a different vein. I have to go check staking on a job north of here so that we can get the one-call notifications made and start excavation within two weeks. Then, it's off to the west to delineate and mark some landslides, quitting by 3:30 or so so I can cruise back and check staking on another job. Total drive time - 3-4 hours. Total field time: 3-4 hours. I get this done, and submit the utility notifications tomorrow, and I'm clear until after Burningman. YEAH!

Books arrived at the house last night - two from the Geological Society of London (no, I'm not a member, but get the books at a discount through the Geological Society of America). Both should prove useful on the trip to BRC - they deal with geologic mapping and rock classification. Whereas certain professions PRACTICE, we DO geology. I don't want someone PRACTICING surgery on me in the future, I need them to be competent already.

Just my morning thoughts. Ignore at will.

Welcome, welcome! What's on your agenda between now and the burn?
I'm doing some glass flame working classes at The Crucible, I wanted to do neon since I haven't done any in over a year but those classes started before I arrived. I also want to learn to weld. Not sure what I'd make since I won't be able to take it home but I'd like to learn.

And I'll be spending a few days in New York seeing shows and eating delicious things.

And organising/building a first year theme camp.

And spending time with my boyfriend pretending to be a normal couple who live on the same continent. Actually if anyone has any tips for things to do in the Bay Area while he works during the week that would be much appreciated. :)

Hi Everyone!
I have acquired a sweet new ride! Won't hold as many groceries as my car did, but gets way better gas mileage...
Very excited..work is 2 miles from home...will be able to stick to the lessor traveled roads to and from.

It's a 2010 Honda Metropolitan - less than 1000 miles - a deal I could not pass up - from a trusted friend..

Oh Sadie that is adorable!

I just found out that one of the couples in our camp will actually be having their honeymoon on the playa.

That kinda feels like a little extra pressure to run an awesome theme camp... Anyone got any tips or advice?

There'll be a smallish soiree on the pier next to the Ferry Building on Friday August 1st to mark an epic Flaming Lotus Girls artwork, called SOMA, having been installed. They replaced all the fiery poofiness with multicolor LED's, and from sunset on each night it'll be an EPIC piece to behold. Almost as EPIC as the bay lights project (which'll be perfectly visible from SOMA, and make for great shots). Hooray for burners making big, groundbreaking art in actual cities!

You may also want to check into Eternal Return. They've got a FB page, there's information about volunteering - they're in the home stretch and working every day and can use a hand if you're able. Their workspace is on Treasure Island. If you're in the east bay you may also want to check into the NIMBY space. Lots of playa projects in progress there, including TASM (The Alien Siege Machine). Aside from getting to work on great art, a lot of times they'll gladly show you how to do the work, from basic metalworking to welding and carpentry and wiring stuff up.

Sightseeing wise, there's the little park on Treasure Island... can't miss it, drive on the main road until you come upon the 55 foot steel sculpture that is Bliss Dance. That's the first in Marco Cochrane's series, Truth Is Beauty was chapter two.

The Ferry Building, the fancy looking 19th century building on the waterfront in SF, is also host to an AMAZING Farmer's Market.... one of the best in the country. Saturday is their big day with hundreds of vendors set up and an indescribably amount of deliciousness, but the building itself has a couple dozen permanent residents and it's open 7 days a week. They do a junior version of the market during the day on Thursdays, and I think it's also running on Tuesdays. Also worth checking out along the Embarcadero - The Exploratorium. Sort of a science center meets art gallery... fun and very unique. Fisherman's Wharf may also be worth exploring, it's a little touristy but if you're not in a hurry and enjoy a little cheesiness and campiness can be a lot of fun.

"The Haight" is also a great place to explore. Lots of weird and eclectic places, some posh and some dodgy, but all kinds of awesome. Set your mapping device or transit app for the intersection of Haight & Ashbury. Once you get there, just explore. Lots of shops, lots of places to get stuff for the burn. lots of places to grab a bite (including a place called, I kid you not, the pork store), and lots of places to grab a drink. The Haight's not too far from Golden Gate Park, which is its own world of exploration. Bucketloads of nature, and a few cool museums and galleries, too. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Good luck and have fun!

Hooray for having gotten all my errands done today. Now I'm beat and just want to kick back, but still have a ton of things to do, including getting the CNC jobs set up for tomorrow afternoon's work projects. I still have to design my new bike racks, too, this will call for shots!

I've been Shanghaied! My buddy Peter has roped me into going with him to Pedal Fest in Oakland, CA, this Saturday. He is packing Millicent The Bus and the trailer full of Whymcycles -- his whimsical variations of bicycles. We were there two years ago, and they begged him to come back. And he needs help to load and unload and set up and supervise and all that.
In Jack London Square, Saturday from 11 to...? So I'll be gone a couple days.

And WhiskeyDrunk Cycles will be there with the WhiskeyDrome.

Be there or be (Jack London) Square.

It would make sense to do the Obtainium Cup in Vallejo the next day (Mare Island, 3 PM -.), but we cannot make it to that one. Maybe you can.
