Any theories or opinions on cat boarding? I can keep Gray Shit in the house by herself, but Maggie could do the time alone let alone with GS. Oh hell no.

Re: DAMN CAT
I found out yesterday that my life will be changing dramatically in the next several months. I need to find a new home for Maggie. She's a year old, short hair tortie, fixed, vaccinated and gets along with other cats very well. Please ask around. I can deliver her. Thanks!

A Christmas Miracle: Button

Button was a tiny baby when she found herself alone, on the streets, and unable to fend for herself. Button was freezing one December night and in search of warmth and shelter, she climbed into a dumpster and tried to make it through the night. Button was only six weeks old.
The next morning, a caring gentleman in Carson City was taking out his trash when he heard tiny, desperate cries. He looked high and low and discovered the pleas were coming from inside the dumpster. He dug through other people's week old garbage and finally found Button. She was obviously fighting for her life, injured, and was rapidly running out of time. He knew Button's only hope was Nevada Humane Society. The Good Samaritan rushed her to NHS - Carson City.
Once Button arrived at NHS, the staff immediately recognized that this precious little creature was living on borrowed time; they had to act quickly if Button was to see tomorrow. Staff rushed her to the veterinarian. The medical staff stabilized her with fluids and food but Button's prognosis looked incredibly bleak. She had a seriously injured eye, was emaciated and hypothermic. Shelter Director, Beata, took her home overnight and force fed her every couple of hours to keep her alive. Button was barely hanging on. Everyone steeled their hearts; Button did not appear to have a future. Our collective heart was breaking.
The next day Button was rushed to NHS in Reno. Our vets needed to once again give her fluids, keep her warm in an incubator and fight to stabilize her, just keep her alive. Once Button was pulled back from the precipice, she had to undergo an intrusive physical exam. Button had a broken jaw, an eye that had been ravaged and destroyed by infection, and needed profound long term medical care and TLC. Button was incredibly untrusting of humans and was not only sick but terrified. Who could blame her?
Button went into foster care after a couple days in the clinic. She was stable enough to leave but still needed round the clock care. Her new foster home, in concert with NHS' clinic, would provide extensive treatment and began the next step of her rehabilitation - socialization, love, and attention.
Button is now over the critical point and moving towards a full recovery. She requires special food until her jaw heals, minimal activity, and she is adapting to living with only one eye. But she is safe, she is happy, and she will see tomorrow - because of you. Button is truly a Christmas Miracle.
From Button and all of us at Nevada Humane Society - Happy Holidays! Thank you for making miracles happen every day.
Warmly,
-Kevin M. Ryan

Cats will lie to you. I just got back from a 4 day campout with some BM friends, and my cats told me they had NEVER been fed while I'm gone.
But A) I know they were because a good friend was doing it, and B) I know they were by the volume in the cat food bin.

Re: DAMN CAT
My 13 year old cat Carlin has been missing since Wednesday. He has a tendency to wander off every now and then and did this last year also. He just picks the worst times to do it since it was the only snow and ice we got all winter over the weekend. I will be leaving fliers on my neighbors houses this evening. He tends to go into buildings to stay warm and then gets locked inside.
A few years back he was trapped in my neighbors storage room for 11 days during the summer. He was totally catatonic when I found him, but otherwise okay.

I've been thinking about volunteering especially since the one in Carson City opened....a little closer

Re: DAMN CAT
My neighbor found Carlin yesterday in the second house they have on their lot. He got into a fight then crawled into there it seems. He was pretty beat up, but should be okay. Pretty sure something bit him, possibly a possum.
I may take him to the vet tomorrow if a couple of his wounds don't look better tomorrow. I had planned on it today, but had some meetings at work and now we are starting to get some ice. He is a fierce warrior cat, and getting beat up happens frequently with him, but I usually get to clean it up immediately.
Anyways, thanks for the concern. He is back home and won't be going outside for a while.

Re: DAMN CAT
I was 16 at the time and took the Amtrak to Winnemucca to visit my mom. I thought the train man would come through the car yelling out "Winnemucca" like they do in old movies. Train man never came through so my lil sister and I went to wait at the door then thinking that it will just open like a subway door. That never happened either so train starts moving and we run back to our seats.
Train man shows up and yells at us. My mom is running alongside platform yelling "stop, my kids are still on train". Other train man looks at her from train and just shrugs. We end up in Carlin in the middle of the night during a blizzard. Had to wait in some cafe/bar for 4 hours till mom could make it through blizzard to come get us. Jukebox had a total of (recognizable) songs on it. Linda Rondstadt and Elvis.
One karma point for dickish train man is that my sister was so upset she puked in the train hall way.
YES!

Wow thread drift!
Maggie still would like to live at someone else's house, prederably someone w another social kitty.
I can handle the move with either Maggie or Sarah, but not both. Incompatable personalities.

We have 7. We just moved from Dayton to Carson City back in August, about 20 miles between each house. They were all paranoid for a time but Diesel, shit he didn't come out of hiding for almost two weeks.

Re: DAMN CAT
I just visited my cousin who now has five (5) damn cats. Each of them bigger than the other at I would guess 20+ pounds. They free range around the house and her (my cousin's) theory is that the number of food bowls, litter boxes, "nests," and water bowls be (n+1). This results in six (6) food bowls, six (6) water bowls ....... The house is small. The watering and feeding bowls are huge. Several drums of cat food are too big to fit in the cabinets so they are left out. Cat hair is a condiment. Saturday morning I woke up to find a cat sleeping in the bathroom sink daring me to turn the water on. Damn cats!
The next morning you will wake up pretty much your old self except that a very unusual 16 hours will have been added to your store of life experience.

Our kitty cafe has one litter box inside.. Also a sifted sand area just outside.. There is a large eve over the sand pit.. It never gets wet.. There is a shovel and screen handy.. Still I have to clean the sand,, I have spoke to some of the damn cats about pitching in with some help.. You would think I was talking to a fence post..
