There are 2 schools of thought on this. Both in my opinion valid.
First... Coca Cola, please? Thanks!! Ice? Sure!!
(1) There are too many LE resources being spent on victimless crime in BRC. When you gotta have a buncha people from all these agencies going undercover to sting someone toking on a joint, the cost of those officer's salary on OT for being at BRC, along with their infrastructural costs (art car, per diem, bonus pay, etc.) don't equate from the income they receive from fines, etc. In essence, the recources are being poorly managed. We won't go into certain officers' rousting entire camps (against probable cause rules, BTW) on fishing expeditions early in the year, handlling the occupants rather heavy handed and detaining them for no reason than they "looked suspicious"... (Yeah, it happened...)
(2) To exacerbate the above, there are not enough LE resources out there when something really shitty goes down. We had a couple pretty bad scenes, including a multiple assault case, go down in town last year, and it was (honestly) luck that caught the bad guy in one of them. (And believe me, this was bad enough he had to be caught.)
Sure, I'll have another coke! Thanks for asking!
If they truly need more "resources", it's not in narcotics surveillance gear... nor in undercover sting operations... nor in fishing expeditions rousting and roughing up entire theme camps (with no probable cause)... it's inmanagement. management of the resources they already have.
Let the Rangers deal with the victimless crime and the medical issues, and deal with the hard crime to keep our city safe. Once they do that, they'll have my support.
BTW - it doesn't help my opinion when 2 days after I meet this cute burner-looking undercover LEO guy in Dispatch (I was on duty, grabbed him a Coke out of my stash, even) he sees me in a different costume out on the streets and asks me if I have a joint to share with him... I started at him, said "Excuse me", he asked again, flirting me up... until I showed him my staff laminate and said "we met 2 days ago - I was on duty, remember?" He walked away, rather red faced...
Was *that* a good use of LE resources?? (As an aside, didn't see him again after that chance encounter...) IMO, that was nothing more than another fishing expedition trying to score an easy bust off a "filthy burner"... except this time it kinda backfired. >oops!!<
Yeah. Let's solve the real crimes, rather than trying to make minor infractions into felonies (or harass the innocent)...
Thanks for the soda... back to work now!
Hugs, all...

I know some of the LE's that have gone out there. For some, they are pretty cool..... for others, they get a "woody" everytime they can get a bust and really look for it......
Such is life dealing with the LE's.......
Oh.. Here is that coke BB,.....

I'm going to have a little something with mine though....

Another take I got from different doc's was that BLM has plenty of money it is Pershing county that is broke! which is unfortunate but it is not Burning Mans responsibility to fund Sheriff Jiffy lube's(Pershing County Sheriff Ron Skinner) budget for a year for a one week event. Since they have no legal authority to collect fee's they are trying to get the Fed's involved.

Not really posed as an option , but there is the fantasy that Black Rock City is a totally self sustaining entity that does not need the out side world.

People actually like Tribe? The UI over there is enough to drive a man to drink. Speaking of drinking I think I'll pour myself a shot of Vitamin T since I don't see any bartenders about.

I don't agree, any time you have 35,000 + people in one place, drinking, using other substances there is a need for LE presence. Not saying all do but enough to warrant the presence. There is no way, the LLC, the black rock rangers et al can keep the peace, which is the job of PCSO and the BLM. Federal land = Federal law, you can choose to abide or not, but don't fault anyone for doing their job or protecting the resourse they are sworn to protect. .

I’d agree it sure looks like a money grab to me too, and it seems kind of underhanded not to just raise the user fee if the economics don’t work out for them. Instead asking the county to charge for the services the BLM would cover in any other circumstance seems creepy. It also seems like the BLM is relinquishing some control over the land they are given authority over .

You can make the arguments for the expense (which is definitely needed), but the huge increase is what it is.....Rock hit the "nail on the head"

both the Newel and the spindles started out as solid round stock about 2/3 of the finished length. The newel is 2-1/2" in dia at the base. lots of heat and lots of power hammer. the handgrip is 1-1/2 solid round, heated and hammered to an oval.
And I do tend to like the organic ones personally too. But I'll give my clients what ever they desire... just with my flair added to it.
I've got to head out for a little bit... I'll be back though.
