GH, people grieve differently, especially if they haven't sought counsel. I think my step-son still hates me.

olives, thanks littleflower. Off to work in about an hour. I built the shopping cart stereo, and the night manager found a way to bypass the muzak, and he plugged in my mp3 player to the whole store system, very nice alternative. tonight, though the other manager might want to plug in his rap... I have no problem with the music per se, but the hateful language and anger of much of it just sets my teeth on edge. I think I'll bring earphones tonight. big project tonight, we are bringing in a test product line of solar panels and other energy solutions. I'm looking forward to all the new toys. I'm a little dismayed that my portable stereo isn't going to shine, but it's one more thing I have ready for that summer festival I go to. You may have heard of it.
The Welshmen (and women) around here can still bake up a nice pastie. The desendents of local Welsh miners who came along with the '49ers have not lost their touch. The Comstock Lode in Virginia City, Nevada was dug on pints and pasties.
The local oak forests here were decimated by miners looking for posts and beams, and by railroad men looking for ties. My grandfather John was a muleskinner who pulled timber, my father worked in a lumber mill as a tallyman (till he died of cancer 34 years later). Many miners turned to lumbering after the goldrush.
The summer after I graduated from highschool I pulled and stacked pine 2x12's on the greenline in the mill. They were cut into 2x4's and shipped to Chicago by rail.
