Sure thang.... I did a year of night school, and then a year and a half of full-time college learning ASL and studying Deaf Culture (program included general linguistics and cultural anthropology, too).. and then got tendonitus in both wrists so bad that I was wearing braces 24/7 and crying at night 'cause I couldn't sleep 'cause they hurt so bad, so.. no interpreter work for me.. but that was over 10 years back, so I've lost TONS of vocab...
One of the sections of night school, I remember having a classmate who had something degenerative happening in his ears, so he was learning to prepare for eventually being deaf... smart to be planning, rather than denying..
.. but, even aside from ASL's normal function, its also GREAT for bars and clubs to chat with your friends without having to yell "WHAAAT?" over and over :) You prob function better at clubs than most, hm?
"guesswork".. yeah, when I was trying to chat with my instructors, and they were talking with each other, I'd prob catch about 60% of the content, and the rest would all be educated guessing from the context :)
