congratulations
KV and family; congratulations, life will never be the same! How wonderful for the holiday season.
Thanks for the well wishes, everyone. I like your idea, fishy. I'm not so sure I can afford the care of a pet but it's a good ides.

Some foster groups support animals under foster care. At the most I suspect you'd be responsible for food, rather than medical care. If you like the idea, then look up or call the local animal rescue group and say you can offer care, but not finances, and see what sort of mutual agreement you can work out.

Happy hump day!
I gots to be bizzy to day....finish up cleaning the house for the holidoom!
I think were dont with shopping crazy crap. although we went very simple this year, most all the kids are grown and dont live at home anymore...so we went with the basics of stocking with stuffers!
I think stockings are the funnest part of Christmas anyway! And in the beginning isnt that how it all started?
A coin in your wooden shoe left outside your door?
and...well...we got a weeeeeeeeeee!
Yeah, the kids will hang out past putting their dish in the sink!

I'm baking... so far I have nutty buddies, seven layer cookie bars, cinnamon shortbreads. Ginger cookies next, then maybe some sort of chocolate chip. If I get ambitious, rum balls. I have all the ingredients for a cheesecake, but I don't know if I have that much stamina for that much work! Fruitcake cookies?
I refuse to do rolled and iced cookies; I love them, I do them very well, but they are labor intensive. And poured icing? Yikes.
If I had a prepared pie crust, I'd make pecan pie. Yes, I can make crust from scratch. No, I dunwanna. Same with truffles. And the Yule log cake.
LOL I'm lazy.

Those yule log cakes are crazy. Of course, I'm so bad at that sort of stuff that Martha Stuart closes her eyes in that pained way every time I walk into the room.

Martha is highly over-rated anyway. She has lots of hired help to clean up behind her - the rest of us mere mortals have to clean the bowls and spatulas!
I'm going with stockings only too, this year, Pinemom. I think it's a good solution.
Earlier we were talking about Christmas fruitcake and I made lots. Someone here wanted some. I know it wasn't OED 'cause he hates the stuff. Anyway I would love to have the honour of sending a Christmas fruitcake to the first person who will love it. Send a PM with your mailing address.
As for OED, I already mailed his toilet paper - he didn't believe me that you can buy 100% post-consumer 1 ply in a grocery store so I'm doing that to prove a point - not because he's full of it!

I do love fruitcake! I'm soaking my fruit now.
I love stockings, but MyLarry is terrible at the concept. He doesn't get buying the right candies, the one super nice present, and then all the little things which are fun trinkets for the stockings. He does get me great presents, but some of the surprise gifts either aren't in the budget (a diamond to replacement my engagement CZ last year, sigh) or are so far out of left field I wonder if he knows me. He doesn't have time, so I'm on my own more often than not lately. Which is depressing, I love to get gifts as much as I like to give them. Mom was terrific at gifts and I inherited the same urge to find just the right thing.

Yes on stockings as the most fun part. My sister finally convinced me to crawl to the darkside and give the nephews visa gift cards... "what they really want" Home made altoid tin mp3 amplifiers were "don't ask" where they ended up. so visa it is.
But what's fun about that? Thank dog for stockings. American scientific and surplus order arrived yesterday evening with a few neat things that wind up, light up, spin, and teeter around.
stocking almost always contains: candy cane, toothbrush, tangerine. Then add small toys, little tools (I found some teeny tiny vice grips this year) pens, pencils, puzzles. The stocking does not even need to be an actual stocking. I bring "stockings" in gift bags. When we were small, the stocking was the method of occupying us kids after we woke up, to enable our parents to have maybe another 15 minutes of sleep. Magical, you go to bed it's empty, you wake up it's full. Then we got older and started sneaking out in the middle of the night to add to the stockings. That part I really miss.

* slips guietly through the backdoor, whispering to his mates * :
" Quickly now lads with a will, casks of rum behind the bar, barrels of ale atop the bar, madera and port to the side here."
* hazards a look to the front*, * waves the crew out the door.*
Merry Christmas Eve! Light Santa's way! I'll be back when I'm able! Taah.

RUM!!!
Yippeee!!!
Thank you kind passer-through.
And speaking of rums.... Good evening Elorrum. I really miss the stockings too. The magic of finding it full the next morning was the very best.
My mother and father had another great tradition that I miss a lot now that I'm an adult. My brother and I would write our wish-list letters to Santa (by hand of course) and our folks would always have a look as well. Then one evening, dad would call us to the fireplace and we would cast the letters in the fire and send them to the North Pole by way of the chimney. As the paper curled and vanished up the flue I always imagined Auld Saint Nick sitting by his own fireside at some point later on that night, simply holding out his hand and the letters would materialize right in front of him from wispy curls of ephemeral vapor.
We never got everything on the list, but there was always several things from it under the tree Christmas morning. Somehow the old elf always got those letters.

Merry Christmas to you all and a very happy holiday season full of love and all the good people in your lives!
Congrats to Kinetic and the new arrival! As some one said earlier, your lives will not be the same! A great way to start the new year, even though you might not realize it, being short on sleep and those non negotiable demands that the new little wee one will thrust upon you.
Good to have you back, Deb, we missed you.
Anti M, I gained 4 pounds just reading about all the wonderful baked goods you're turning out
