Drugs are like kids:
- Just when you're sure you've had enough for a lifetime, you get a hankering for some more. (I have a 20-year-old and a 7-year-old; I know whereof I speak.)
- You think they're gone for good, and the next day they're at your door again. (Hey, where are those flashbacks I was promised, goddammit?!)
- After a weekend with them, you have to go back to work just to get some friggin' rest.
- They can have a dramatic effect on your Burning Man experience.
- You can do all the research you want, but nothing will prepare you for the reality of them. (Hey, that's what people always say about Burning Man, too, isn't it?)

So much for changing the subject. I want 2 or 3 kids before I'm done, if it's possible for me to have any. She wants the same but in this day and age I'm playing it very cautious. I don't want to be just a child support check for her and never see my kids...I've seen that happen all around me and I don't want it to be my story.
And nobody has an opinion on curling? Come on! Surely someone out there knows what I'm talking about?

Don't even worry about it at this point. If you know that the two of you have reasonably compatible desires, children-wise, set that aside for the moment and pursue your relationship with one another. In a few years, if you're doing well, committed, feeling certain about being together for the long term, then you can start thinking about actually having them. Imho, ymmv, etc.Putting the cart before the horse, Kinetic II wrote:I want 2 or 3 kids before I'm done, if it's possible for me to have any. I dunno, it doesn't seem like an entire sport in itself. Perhaps as part of a triathlon sort of thing, along with acrylic nails and electrolysis? In his continuing quest to change the subject away from kids and drugs, Kinetic II further wrote: And nobody has an opinion on curling? Uh, Flux....that's not quite what I had in mind. An interesting take on it...but the version I was thinking of is an ice sport.
You totally floored me with that pic though...I wasn't expecting that.
As for kids...she is pushing too fast. Way too fast. She's spent the past 2 weekends over here with me and I feel like I need oxygen...I can't breathe. And she's too accepting of my slob habits. This place is a fully qualified Federal Disaster Area waiting for the declaration and she doesn't care.
Maybe I should just accept it as a good thing and shut up. But now she wants to come to BM in 04 with Tiff and I. And I'm thinking this is the ultimate CLASS 1 FUCK UP I could make on my part. Anyway enough TMI but that's what's on my mind right now...that and how she wants kids.
Loneliness sucks. Loneliness and depression are even worse.

And this is a problem why? Because you need a maid? Hire one. Or is it
that she doesn't fit into your idea of what a woman should be because
she doesn't clean up after your sloppy ass, and doesn't care about the
mess?

No, no, no! I don't need a maid, I don't need someone to clean up after me either. What shocks me is that unlike every other woman I met, I'm not being blasted with the "change list". You need to change that, fix this, quit wearing that. It kinda freaks me out after going out with all those change specialists.precipitate wrote: And this is a problem why? Because you need a maid? I claim I don't do a lot of drugs, but let's face it, art supplies will put you in an "altered state pretty quick! ( my work involves a lot of spray adhesive)TestesInSac wrote:Altered states, schmaltered states. Let semi-paste paint remover seep into your system through your hands, then don't eat or sleep for 3 days. You'll be plenty altered.
I took the road less traveled, and now I would like to go back and find the paved one.

So I repeat, why is this a problem? People who want to change potential
mates to fit their own expectations are just asking for trouble. People who
expect their mates to be understanding and to attempt to come to a
compromise when their wishes don't coincide are a lot more likely to end
up in a healthy relationship. Maybe she just doesn't care. Or maybe she's
a stealth change specialist, just waiting for a commitment from you
before she lays down the law. Be good to figure that out soon, though.

Too late. And it wasn't the fumes, it was the paste on my fingers that I couldn't feel because I've damaged my hands enough to not feel pain the way I should in them.BlueBirdPoof wrote:Please, please, please, for the sake of minimalizing long term neurological damage
So wear gloves too, dammit.

My folks added a 3 year marriage rule for kids, and I think that was a good call, but it depends on the person/situation erring on the side of more time is better, I have been married 3 years, and my husband and I agreed even before we were married to start talking about kids when I hit 28, but it ain't happening. I was rushed through everything, and I am taking life at my own damn pace now, yeah it freaked my folks out that it took us 6 years to get engaged! So what? My life. I would have liked to be engaged for another 6. I'm not ready to have kids and I am cool with that.III wrote:remember the 6mo/1year rule: 6 months dating before moving in together or other major life changes, 1 year before planning marriage. i'd throw another 6 mo to a year on that before even trying to get pregnant.

Don't worry, got the windows open and a fan, usualy, ( im not so good about it when it's cold) but a nice resparator would make a good gift for the starving artist over here.BlueBirdPoof wrote:Please, please, please, for the sake of minimalizing long term neurological damage, wear a respirator, and/or work in well ventalated areas.
(Hoping she's pointing out the obvious.)
