I loves me some Simon - so many times I am biting the back of my hand or wanting to shut my fingers in a drawer to keep from saying exactly what he says. It was everything I could do to not snark it up over the "pagent hair" freakout. I know....it is essential to a sweet girl and the professional reputation of another very nice person.....but oh hell's bells REALLY?????? What I believe happened is that one of the other moderators was reading another thread, saw Simon's responses as a bit harsh, and messaged him privately to ask him to tone things down and possibly cut the OP some slack for one reason or another. I believe that moderator had the best of intentions, and don't believe that the intention was to either play favorites, give anyone special treatment, censor the boards, or any of the other things it could have been construed as. Simon was rightfully and understandably upset about that, which is where things are now. I'm sorry for the way that was handled, we (as a team and individually) will work on that.

I tend to agree with Simon on this. An individual post can't be "moderated" out of context and without considering the responses of others replying to the post as well. I think moderators have to suppress any gut reaction to moderate an individual post based on their personal feelings and wait to see how a thread develops and how it is perceived by others before jumping in and "moderating" it.

i think a Bakunist methodology might be the best....if collectively, something appears over the line, the other eplayans will let that person know, and respond accordingly, therefore insuring that the STANDARD will be based on the community, and not some town in Iowa.

public shame works great, especially to those that value the Burning Man Community.

if someone is about to be stoned for no reason, i am quite certain that there will be somebody, if not many who stand up and demand that those with glass houses had better be ready to be judged for R- Value.
