Heyyyyy O! well I gotta go.
There's nothing left to do but rock and roll.
A little bit of rhythm with a strong back beat,
got my blue suede shoes on my two left feet.
Bottle of whisky going out the door,
gonna dance this dance 'til I can't no more.

Not to depress BB any more than he already is, but I've been toying with the idea of a new car for a year or so now myself... sort of an assistant for my wonderful, wonderful work truck.
I like the VW Jetta with the 4cyl diesel... 42 MPG.
Dependable, long life and high mileage???
Nice.
Just figure I've got to wait another year or so for a used one.

Well I am going if I have to hitchhike.LeChatNoir wrote:Well... In life there are short term problems and there are long term problems and its important to not get them confused, so first things first...
Did you get the car going?
If not, what is wrong with it?
Well initially It was the starter and bendix. OK. $250 Makes things tight at a time when evewry last nickle counts. Doable IF nothing else goes. So they put it in and it works but does not disengage. So now also need a new flywheel. Another $750. No can do. Would take two paychecks (a months pay) to cover that if I did not pay any bills.
And When I walk out of the door of this house in August I am never coming back. Gonna throw a match in when I leave. Would be a kindness to burn this house down. It's a sad house.
Was gonna take whatever I could fit in the Bronco (the car) and leave the rest. Maybe a little more stuff if my dad drives his car out here.
Anyway not I gota use plan B. Just don't know what that is yet.
But I am gonna dance til I drop.

Ooop!!!
sorry for the unwelcoming reply, Evergreen Bringer of Life... I'm into sewing a skirt at the moment.
BB... wait.. Does not DISengage?
Nothing to do with the flywheel... everything to do with the starter relay getting stuck. At least seems that way to me.
Starter is built to shoot forward and contact the flywheel when it has power sent to it. If it is staying engaged, then its continuing to get power, like if you left the key in the start postion after it is running.

The teeth on the starter are chewed up and will not release the starter or bendix or something. The guys at the Ford shop have bent over backward to make things right without me having to complain or even ask, so I know they are not feeding me a line. I have been doing bussiness with them for 3 1/2 years. He said that after they got the new starter in it would disengage so they figured it was a bad starter. Buit when thay took it out and tested it, it worked fine. I dunno.

Wish I was closer to you, man... Without lookng at it myself I must say that going on what you've tol me, I am very confused at this point.
If the starter teeth are boogered, and it was a new starter... sounds like an error by the installer to me.
But again... I'm not there to look at it myself.

Ok, so let me see if I have this correct...Box Burner wrote:The teeth on the starter are chewed up and will not release the starter or bendix or something. Old starter does not start engine...
Old starter gear is stripped...
New starter goes in, works but does not start engine...
pull out, check new starter and it works fine...

IT'S ESPRESSO TIME!!
anyway BB, about that starter: Has anyone visually inspected the ring gear teeth? I know that if the pinion gear(the little one on the Bendix[fancy name for over-running clutch]) hammers into the ring gear enough that the metal on the edge of the gear teeth CAN get hammered into the gaps between the teeth and make insertion and withdrawal difficult. Usually ring gear teeth are hardened so this doesn't happen often, but the pinion gear is super hard.
There is way more force available to shove the pinion into the ring gear than there is to pull it out.
Depending on the starter mounting method, whether it goes straight in the front into a hole in the front of the bell housing, or up onto the bottom of the block, there may be shims used to set the ring gear to pinion spacing. If there were none used with the old starter and the replacement starter tolerances need some, the shop may not "know" to use shims. Often the case in general mechanic shops as opposed to dealer shops.
What year/engine is your Bronco?

thats what i was wondering too...what year is bronco.. although CHEVY/GM is the better choice...hehehe Chevy bitch
Ive redone starters too, and because mine is a 85 and had a 79 too, It alomst mandatory to use the shims, for some reason didnt have to with this new starter I replaced 2 months ago? It seemed to lock into place, (I even felt into groove, my fingers are small enough, but no gap or movement)so I kept the shims just in case it starts to grind or slip.
