The week's almost over, and we'll get to catch our breath. I think of it as another week closer to the time I get to see some of the Best People In The Whole Wide World. (this alone gives me courage to face the stupid days that follow my coupl'a days off...)

Really looking forward to another Hof party... it'll be the beginning of a whole month of adventure!

Hey, I'm back! The Grand Championship Kinetic Sculpture Race was Glorious as always. Hopefully I'll find some photos.

In the Santa Rosa area today, a car in front of me had an interesting bumper sticker. It was The Man, with normal arms and legs, but with a monkey head, and a monkey tail swinging out to one side. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

Alas, it does not look like I will make it to the Ting at the Hof. There is a Kinetic Sculpture Race in Klamath Falls, Oregon, the same weekend, and I have some sponsorship towards the travel cost. I've missed that the last two years, so this time I'm going. But I will definitely be in BRC in August.

Whew! It's been a busy week, I've been racing and scrambling around jumping between one project and the next. today's been non-stop since sun-up, and believe it or not I still have stuff to do before bed.

I'm excited for Homouroboros too, Elorrum. I had the pleasure of catching it right after they'd finished building and everything was working properly, but if I remember correctly (2007 was fuzzy in spots) it spent most of the week in one state of repair or another. I think the other he's bringing out is Tantalus, which is one from a year I'd taken off, so woohoo - new to me!

I don't think that was one of Hudzo's stickers, Elliot. I think they did one (it was small and round), but it was of the monkeysnake art symbol. There are loads upon loads of stickers out there, which reminds me that's another piece of art I need to work out in the next few days haha. Sorry to hear you'll be missing the Hof (which I'm really looking forward to), but if you've got to miss it that's a pretty good reason. I'll see you in the dust!

I just read your post in the other thread, Yggy, holy crap! Fun indeed, glad you escaped un-squished. The thing to remember about frankencampers is they spend a lot of time just sitting there, plotting stuff... Of course, american steel isn't always much better than the chinese stuff, look at the current bay bridge kerfuffle - the bolts at the center of it all were made in the USA.

I got a slightly later start than I'd wanted to this morning. i planned to get up with Pandorra, but she knew I was up late and so this morning was stealthier than usual when getting up and getting ready for work. So, mad rush, scramble scramble, get another coat of sealer on the railing panel, quick shower, load supplies and tools into the van, run to storage, unload a bunch of plywood sheets into the container and get some silk-screening supplies from a bin, and off to the workshop by 9:30. I'm in the middle of a painfully long job cutting a full sheet of connectors. Hooray for Friday, but it's gonna be a long one.

yeah steel.........I've had an interesting relationship with it.
in my work, I use steel tools, some of them well over 100 years old, some hand forged. And, have some equipment, and even scrap steel, the same age.
When I but a new steel "thing", and especially if it's something I hit, pry with, or weld, it's so obvious!!

some of the old steel stone working tools, and hand drills, ring a a super high pitch, each time you hit them, it's almost musical. And, if working on a nice piece of hard, dense stone, that ring adds to it. You can "feel" the tones, and how the enegergy transmits from arm, to hammer, to chisel, to stone......sort of a "zen" thing, I suppose.
But, buy a new chisel, escpecially if it's made "offshore", and it just thuds.......or at best as a bit of a ring, but short lived.
I have stonecutting hammers, again over a century old, that I've never had to grind a mushroom off of........and they've totally worn out many chisels.

and then pry bars.........Jeebus! I've bent 3/4" hex bars, 6' long. New ones, that is. I have old ones, I can jump on, and all they do is give a little then throw me off to the side.
