You know, I was one of the earliest people on this board ten years ago, and in all this time it just now occurred to me that the tan background color is because that's PLAYA DUST color.

Howdy, YG!! Top of the morning to ya. Beautiful day here. Saw a play last night that consisted of the letters between the poets Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell at the Berkeley Rep. Was unfamiliar with their work, but it was an insight to the difficulties some experience in making human connection. Needed to read the program to really understand what was going on. Playa Schwag now in the kiln for the first firing before glazing. Always feels good to have that bit of Playa Prep completed.

Good morning Yggy and Marty and knowmad, and a happy sunny Sunday to everyone. I'm sore and achy today, part from yesterday and part from Friday's punishing schedule, but awake and looking forward to working on art. The BBQ-a-noob/Participation Picnic at Golden Gate Park yesterday was a BLAST. We had gone the year before and had a good time, but the weather was on the dodgy side in 2012. Yesterday was bright and sunny and fairly warm (for GGP… the breezes are always chilly though), and turnout was great. We had answered Jocko's invitation to bring a setup for our camp, so I pulled together parts to make an 8x8 foot shade structure and packed that along with one of the curio carts, the rubber stamp bar, as well as bar stools and one of the railing panels and a big poster I'd made (plus stuff for the potluck BBQ) and we headed over. The response we got was overwhelming, the rubber stamps were an even bigger hit than I thought and people really seemed to enjoy hearing about our plans. It was also fun hearing about what other people are doing too, I'm especially looking forward to something a pair of Sacramento burners are working on - they've got a casket and are putting wheels underneath and then part of a bicycle on the top end and bottom end so that it can be pedaled around, and a passenger can ride around inside it. Sounds like great (and twisted) fun. The only part I didn't like a whole lot was taking a frisbee in the face…ow! Actually, I kind of wish someone had caught it on video, it had to have been hilarious. While I was walking back from the bathrooms I was talking with a friend, and didn't see the off-course frisbee coming until it was too late. I thought it was going to hit me in the eyes and in the split-second before impact I recoiled just enough that instead of taking an eye out it smashed right into my two front teeth. Knocked me right on my ass and hurt like hell, but surprisingly no bloody lip or teeth knocked out. It didn't put much of a damper on the day though, thanks to Jocko for the invitation as well as to Retro and the whole special events team for putting on an awesome event.

Well hello all 8)

Sorry I missed your birthday party Playapoppa1 I was at a graduation party for my neice. 8) At my demented mother's huge waterfront home. My brother is getting sicker  and our mother would not let him rest for 5 minutes. :? Sad. But we managed to have some fun anyway.

Found out this afternoon that Moonrise is having surgery on his back tomorrow, he's not keen on that but whatever's going on there is really making him sick now on top of the pain and disability he's been dealing with for years. Fuck. :|

Happy to send along get-well wishes; let me know.

Yes MDF, please let Moonrise know that a bunch of us are thinking about him, and hoping that this surgery is a big step not only toward helping to sort out this infection problem, but perhaps also helping with his chronic back problem. Unless I'm mistaken, I believe he is active with the Pier group as well. I'm sure they are concerned, and wish him well also.

I certainly can't fault the frisbee players - it's a giant open meadow at an awesome park, and a beautiful day. I should have been more mindful of the world around me as we walked around the edge of where they were at, but was engrossed in a conversation with a campmate who'd turned up. Sorry to have missed you, you should have come on over. The people often surrounding us were mostly people we'd never met before. Hilariously (because we'd never given it any thought) we were popular with kids - they'd race up and get a stamp or two and then race off, come back later and do it again, towards the end some of them had both arms and both legs covered in various stamps.

Thinking positive thoughts for Moonrise, I can certainly understand his reluctance for surgery but back pain can be excruciating and infections downright dangerous. I've got chronic back/leg pain issues and believe me it's no fun. Here's hoping for relief and comfort in his very near future.
