I just found out that I do not have to apply to enter USA because my approved application from last year lasts one more year. Yes!

I was kinda bummed and worried about financing the gas for our trip, when more campers and a couple rideshares from another camp backed out of the trip in the last couple weeks. Our bus that comfortably holds 14 had only 7 guaranteed passengers, and gas is going to probably run us in the realm of 2 grand. But I tentatively sent out a bulletin on the Alberta Regional mailing list, and was super stoked to have 3 people reply within 24 hours with interest, one single rider and two groups of 3! It looks like we'll be able to fill the bus and not worry about paying more out of pocket. Though fingers crossed the large amount of random strangers doesn't mean we'll get more trouble at the border. I keep making wishes they don't tear us to pieces and search us.

Good news about filling the bus a little more. :)

Perhaps make printouts/summations of the eplaya border crossing threads for your passengers. Make sure they know how suspicious the Border folks are of Burners, and how closely they may be searched.

That's great news Fufa,,,, but you are right,,,, you need to make it specifically plain to your passengers that contraband is not allowed. YOU are responsible for anything in that vehicle! I just want to see you in the dust and sense the urgency to tell you this.

Thank guys.

And don't forget, there are 50,000 people going with you, so it should be easy to find fellow pilgrims. :)

That's one of the first things we lay out as soon as someone asks to come with us. No drugs, no drug paraphernalia, no excuses. It does not come on the bus. Everyone we talk to seems very aware of border crossing issues, and has heard the stories and warnings from other burners (which is good). They all seem pretty responsible and concerned about being able to get the burn, and definitely not wanting to ruin the trip for themselves or everyone else. Also we meet everyone in person if they're close, or talk on the phone a bunch to really get a feel for them.

I haven't been to Alberta's Freezer Burn yet or even any regional events yet, so I have a tough time gauging how many burners there in this province. I like to be conservative and assume less rather than more. :P I think I eventually may be pleasantly surprised to find the opposite. More and more often when I mention it in public conversation, people actually know what I'm talking about! Some even express comments along the line of "someday I hope to...". I try pretty hard to convince them "no, do it now! NOT someday!"

Play the part of conductor and say "TIckets Please!" Before they even get on the bus...
Maybe even bolt a locking cash box or tackle box in the front of the bus in plain view to put everyone's tickets in until you get to the gate. Put each ticket in a seperate envelope with the victim's, er, passenger's name on it so that if someone's turns out not to be valid, it will go back to that person and not someone else.
Hell, I lost the maps Espressodude and Helga gave me between Portland and the playa last month...
My ticket is going in a large manilla envelope that will be duct taped to the back of my seat!

Time for a funny story.
One year, my campmate invited one of his younger friends along, which means I had to pick him up at his Mom's house.
At the gate, it turned out that he had forgotten his ticket. Guess who had to buy him a new one, and never got paid back for it? The charming young hippy boy thanked me by leaving his sleeping bag strewn about the camp (it was on the esplanade), and eventually lost my canteen for me.
So, trust but verify, citizens. :)

I LOVE IT! I have a cash box for one of my clubs I can empty out. Probably won't bolt it down though cause I have to return it after. We can keep it under the driver's seat. Everyone has been told that tickets, passports, and rideshare cash in full needs to be presented in order to gain entry.
