I got conditional approval to bring Pigarus to the playa! Here it is at the moment

Here's the base. It's a Jazzy motorized chair with the chair removed and a cradle to support the pig

Here's an overall view. Main body is a 55 gal food barrel, ends are shaped out of chicken wire.

Here's the hind-quarters. I tried a few things along the way including starting from a cardboard shape and adding a foam product that I thought would enable me to smooth the surface. Neither worked terribly well, but you can see the remains of the attempts inside the chicken wire. They won't cause any difficulties. Since then I've been free-forming the chicken wire and if I do need to fill areas to even them out I'll use bondo or something between fiberglass layers

Here's the head view. I have some faceted glass that I expect to light up with LEDs and use for eyes.

Rider will straddle the barrel and control using the standard controls of the chair base.

Remaining to do:
Right front trotter
Possibly more shaping of both front trotters
Fiberglass
Wings
Paint
Lights - head lights and tail lights will mount directly to base. Wings will be lit with color-changing LEDs.

Really cool, Swampdog! I can definitely see where that's going!

I look forward to seeing the finished product. Does the rider sit astride the pig? Does it seat more than one?

Savannah, yes the driver straddles the pig. Might be able to seat 2, but I'm not counting on it. I still haven't figured how to do wings.

maybe you could make a little trailer that looks like a mild stool and put handles on the pigs haunches, for riders?

Hey gang!

Love the flying pig you're building swampdog! Please post more images as things progress, it is always inspirational to see these projects as they develop.

I've been swamped with work the last few days. Usually this time of year things slow down, but last year it stayed busy all summer, and this summer seems to be shaping up to be the same. Gotta find more time for burn prep.

Oh, and a belated Happy Birthday Lucky and Adam!

yeah, that must have been some rain!! I'da loved to have been out there in it. I got caught in a couple of those, over the years out there. Damn impressive. The materials flowing can look like concrete coming down a gully, lots of force and abrasion.

really, as bad as that looks, I'm sure NDOT could get it in a few days, if prompted.

I am getting excited again.

Oh Yggy NIH= National Institutes of Health, huge federal medical research agency, their headquarters are near here and their huge campus includes an actual hospital where all the patients are study subjects. Excellent care and a beautiful place. My brother is lucky to be eligible for treatment there.
