I think the sauce should be something with maple syrup

it was a maple syrup based sauce, as le chef suggested.

does maple syrup taste like almond paste???? :?

college gymnastics team? i did ride in an elevator with a lady basketball player ... at least, she looked like one ... no one would have mistaken her for a male gymnast, though.

The Limpopo is a nice change from the Bar this morning, El.

I do agree, spring is a-comin'. Should be kinda spring like today. It will be tough to convince the folks buried in snow in the mid atlantic states of that fact. Glad I am here and not there. Got a tennis game this morning

Thanks for the coffee. Think I'll set awhile.

Enjoy the day Carpe Diem!

good morning!

a week ago i was in western maryland, and i thought it was snowy when i was there! total PIA. but .... the night before i left it snowed a few inches, and i was amazed how the snow stayed on all of the branches, even the teeny-tiniest at the very tops of the very naked trees. it was soooo pretty, a winter wonderland, and something i had never really seen other than in photos. magical, even .... it didn't look real! but the sun came out and within a few hours most of the snow had grown heavy and dropped out of the trees. still pretty, but not so magical as in the earliest dawn....

but even those storms i saw were a PIA ... this one is really amazing!

still, i'm also happy to be transported to africa for the morning ....

Sad day today.
Being I'm only 21, I guess I didn't realize how hard it would be when you're the only one in your household with income due to your partner being fired... It's a first for me. It's really stressing me out. Stressing me about my BM trip. Was going to use my tax return to fund my journey. Looks like now I'll have to pay for bills instead. :(

Marzipan is much more common in Norway, where I grew up, than here in the US, so the mere thought takes me back to the innocent happiness of childhood -- and my brother and I pigging out on marzipan til it oozed out our ears.
In Norway, the equivalent of the US Snickers bar is the "Marzipan Bread", which is marzipan covered with chocolate. And you can get them much larger than a Snickers bar.
Youse guys had to get me started, didn't you! Well, you had no way of knowing.

Note to self: Ask brother to bring a case of Marzipan Brød if he comes to Burning Man.

Marzipan is the confection of the gods! I love it and was not aware of its popularity in Norway. Thanks for the info, Elliot.

Marzipan babies, not so much.

Imagine a typical American chocolate Easter bunny, which we always discover to our disappointment is... hollow. Now imagine all that empty space filled with marzipan. That's the Norwegian way.

Perhaps the situation has changed since I grew up there. Perhaps our friends the Herring Huggers will tell us that marzipan has gone out of fashion. But not to my palate it never will!

No, I don't remember any such for New Years. Most of the elaborate shapes were for Christmas. We'd buy big slabs of the stuff and shape pieces like you shape dough, and cut them out with cookie cutters and paint them with food coloring and so forth.

Now that I think about it, the pigs were for Christmas. Probably the most popular marzipan shape at Christmas. Jule Gris, Marsipan Gris -- yep, that rings a bell. Like Easter Bunnies here, but solid marzipan.
