Coffee and a pickle this morning, with a few plain ground turkey and onion tacos. Oatmeal gets old, you know? Seriously I need to go shopping, but I don’t want to get perishables right away when I’ll be out of town this weekend.
Ygmir, how are the hof access roads these days? From your side?

I have wondered about the SPPSS, Securicor. How do you manage the penguins?
as rough as ever, ygmir? A tall 4WD only? Coming from the top end of the lake, the year your side had a steep washed out section, the road was very rocky, not steep, but very big rocks.

I've not been up to the top end of the lake, or road in that way yet. But, it's safe to say it's still the same. With the advent of the "side by side" type vehicles, the roads are changing. they drive super fast, spin and slide a lot, and seem to scatter the finer material off the roadway, leaving the larger rocks exposed. One can usually pick their way through with a lower vehicle, just takes some skill and awareness. I've seen you off road, and know you have both. But in general, higher ground clearance is good. no need for 4x4, as you say, nothing particularly steep.

Good morning, Bar! *makes a nice big pitcher of lemonade* gonna be a hot one around here. Feel free to enjoy as-is, or add your beverage supplement of choice... *points to bottles of hooch behind the bar*
Whew, been super busy around the house. Finally got that workshop table I'd been talking about a few weeks back finished, as well as tons of things happening around the house. We also had some campmates over last weekend, which was fun. I did some DIY trimming of some of the oleander on our side yard, and I got a start on building a little fence around that stuff - this weekend I hope to get that finished, so we can make the yard a little safer for friends and campmates with dogs. Other than a bit of yard work, I think we're going to try and take things easy, maybe make something tasty with the grill or the smoker.
That trip sounds like fun, Elorrum, enjoy!!!
Nice with the bear sighting, Yggy... I know you know to give 'em their space and all that... they're amazing creatures and fun to watch from a distance. I don't think we get anything approaching that level of wild down here. The occasional coyote, I think.
Take care, keep cool!

Hi Trilo!
yeah, I stopped clear enough to not freak out the little cubs. I posted the vid on my FB, not sure how I'd do it here.
You'd be surprised at the wildlife of the southern NV desert! the only ones I'd not want around the house are the "buzzy tail nope ropes".......I relocate them if I find them nearby, a mile or more away and they'll just set up a new territory.
Glad you got your table done, look forward to seeing photos!

Howdy All,
Good to be here.
I'm tellin' ya', with prices going up and money stayin' the same, it sure make a fella want a little Larceny.

Anyone care to join me?
Yard is starting to look nice again. Got a lot of that damn flowering thorn bush cleared out. Now I just have to keep it mowed down and then I can seed with grass in the fall. Got a ground hog and a skunk taking turns going under the house. Gonna have to get rid of them before they decide to tangle with Luna (the cat). Saw the skunk come out a couple of days ago. He just looked at me and then trotted down my new cut trail to the lower forty and disappeared. Cocky little SOB.

Re: Re: The 2025 Burning Man Bar is open
What a kind thing to say! Thank you Savannah!
Well, let's see, I think we did meet ever so briefly at the Brainy Bar a few years back. I had found my way there one afternoon in hopes of getting to talk to Trilo for a few minutes, which is something I strive to do because, let's face it, he's a pretty cool cat! Anyhow, as fate would have it, I showed up just as the eplaya mods, of all things, were beginning to meet up there. We got a chance to say hello, but I realized I had sort of inadvertently stumbled upon a gathering of eagles, so I quietly withdrew, and was probably chasing something shiny down the street less than a minute later, Lol.
My impression, brief as it was, is that you have the kind of vibrant and upbeat personality that can light up a room... or shade structure!
I hope our paths cross in the dust again sometime, though it seems unlikely I'll be out there this year. Next year, for me, is feeling like a big GO For the Burn though!
'til then...
*slides drinks down bar*
Cheers to all here at the Bar!

Hi Bar!
Hi, Savannah, BVB, Box B., ygmir. BBD.
I played with my solar kit yesterday, wonder why I have such a big box of cigarette lighter connectors and rarely use them. I noticed I have raided many of the male connectors for the fuses. Consistent respect for polarity was slow in sticking in my mental toolkit. I put a small panel in the window, and can use it for most of my music and tv audio.
The playa over Memorial Day weekend was very dramatic weather wise, but never catastrophic. Windy and wild clouds, a little rain, but never a mud problem. I found my car to be quiet and dry, but realize at our event there would be too much dust for that to be clean enough for sleeping in. It’s really cool to have huge winds out there in the off season, and so much less dust.

Hi Elorrum.
do you still have the fold down sleeping deck for the back of your car system?
Yeah, off season, early season, the big winds and micro weather out there can be so very cool, and even fun!
I ripped the little awning over Looney tunes pop out on his RV off and beat the AC cover to death last year. but not dusty. Do you ever go looking for treasures out there? There are certain areas to find things like spent casing and even fired projectiles, mostly .50 cal and under. One year the playa surface blew away in a certain area and we were picking up all sorts of "hardware" and such, from back when they practiced gunnery and air ops out there.

Hiya ygmir. Yes, I used it over Memorial Day weekend. I appreciate your help with that. The fold up part doesn’t fit in my car, and I like it better having it be ready. The main board with Mashable stuff at the foot works fine, and car sleeping is quiet. It seems a bit harder than it did 7 years ago, even with an old thermarest on top. I think the thermarest has a leak. I have been looking for an upgrade, but prices are higher than they were… I saw this ad for a used one: “ 72x20x1 Military Therm-a-rest Self Inflating Camping Backpacking Sleep Mat Pad. Pinhole somewhere. Patch it or give it to your girlfriend ...”. Patch possible for mine I guess. I’ll stick it in the tub and see if it bubbles.

you could also inflate it and spray an area at a time with soapy water. Just like finding a leak in a tire, it'll bubble.Elorrum wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 10:50 amHiya ygmir. ah, nice rainy Sunday morning! a treat, for sure. it was 100 deg. two days ago.
My daughters friend writes a travel blog thing (not sure what it's called), and did one of our trip to the Hof month or so ago.
Some of you have seen it's progress here on other threads (what you working on? or some such titles for what we are making).

awe Lucky, you're a peach!! yeah the bear thing was so special. I stayed in the road till mom circled around us, to keep other vehicles slowed down, since I was in the middle of the road. I was afraid some dip stick would blow through there and hurt one.
C'mon up to the Hof sometime!

three to start. Good morning Bar.
I've been looking at recipes for cinnamon buns. I'll bring them in if they turn out o.k. Working out bread dough by hand might be a good activity. I usually get about a 1/3 rise, soft enough to count as bread, but closer to pretzels in density. I will let the yeast sit a little bit longer in the hot water this time.

HI Elorrum! Hi Patsh!
yeah, the bear family was such a treat! I sat in the road to keep other people from speeding through until mama bear could circle to the cubs. Sitting there we could hear the cubs calling mom, and interacting with eachother, seeming a little nervous but not real distress. Mom sauntered and circled us to cross the road behind and they all moseyed off down the canyon.
Nice to seeya Patsh! how's things in the southland?

Hey all!
I just now watched your Hof video yg. I guess I was sort of saving it for when I had a chance to sit down and enjoy it. Really nice work, with a pleasant vibe! The Hof looks great, and the video provided me with a better sense of the surrounding environment than I previously had. Thanks for posting!
We've been in a heat wave here, though we're getting a brief respite for the next couple of days, then it's back on for the first of next week again. Approaching 100°, which is pretty high for around here, but as they say, it's not the heat, it's the humidity, and we've got plenty of that. Seems best to sit down and hydrate often, even after simple outdoor chores.
Decided to piddle around with some art stuff yesterday instead; always a welcome relief!
...and it's great to see you stopping in Patsh!

HI BVB!
wow, yeah, that's some heat for you guys! I"ve heard it's humid back east all summer, so it must be a double whammy! When we get into triple digits, our humidity is usually single digits. So usually if you can get in the shade it's not too bad. Good luck with that!
