Thats's pretty disturbing. If nothing else imagine the shock those kids would be in for when they learn that all their text books left that stuff out.

All history is closer to fiction than non fiction and is at best loosely based on the facts much like the movie version of a book. After all, those who get the shitty end of the stick are not the ones writing history books so we really only get the views of one side for the most part.
The material calls for lawmakers to amend state laws governing school curriculums, and for textbook selection criteria to say that “No portrayal of minority experience in the history which actually occurred shall obscure the experience or contributions of the Founding Fathers, or the majority of citizens, including those who reached positions of leadership.”

Fayette County attorney Hal Rounds, the group’s lead spokesman during the news conference, said the group wants to address “an awful lot of made-up criticism about, for instance, the founders intruding on the Indians or having slaves or being hypocrites in one way or another.

“The thing we need to focus on about the founders is that, given the social structure of their time, they were revolutionaries who brought liberty into a world where it hadn’t existed, to everybody — not all equally instantly — and it was their progress that we need to look at,” said Rounds, whose website identifies him as a Vietnam War veteran of the Air Force and FedEx retiree who became a lawyer in 1995.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

He wrote a second book after "mien kamf" that mentions the things he admires about the U.S.

I thought he got the idea from how we treated the "indians", but this says something else. :(

I've heard the same thing; he was also interested in the British treatment of natives in South Africa. And I think the Turkish treatment of the Armenians in WWI was an influence. Romans on Dacians? No idea...

Indeed no. As I am of the opinion that you don't rise above your dark side without confronting it directly, I particularly object to the "white washing" of history.
Although, the bad stuff has to be introduced in an age-appropriate manner.

yeah, I'd agree with the age appropriate part.

and exploring the "dark side", true, a valuable thing.
I see it at times, used to denigrate unnecessarily, IMHO.
some things are taken out of context, without regard to society, popular thought( of the time) and, social norms (of the time).

Sometimes I see historical references, and negativity, focused through our vision, without any consideration to "the times" of occurrence.

Perspective, is so important, as well as context.

leaving an elder, out on an ice flow, to be eaten by polar bears or whatever, seems cruel and uncaring, to us.
But, to them, then, it was how things should be. Accepted practice, offering to the Gods, whatever.

Slaughtering the enemy, was seen, at a time, as a way to make sure they didn't attack again, or use your food.
Seems "raw" and insensitive to us, but, to "them, then" it was how things were done.

just saying, perhaps, decry the action, but understand the perpetrator better.

Don't disparage folks now, for what others did, in the past.

WTF!!! OK, maybe I misunderstood how this lottery thing works. I was told when you apply for tickets you order them at the price you want to pay, say, $240...but if they pick you name And it's for a $390 ticket, you're SOL!! Is that really how it works??

I don't think you're even in the drawing for the price(s) you deemed too expensive.
