Yes, those are all valid reasons for difficult, and in some cases impossible, to manage weight. And I don't hold those with a valid reason for their weight to the same standard.theCryptofishist wrote:What about nasty glands and no health care? Yes, diet and exercise. Good stuff. Hard work physically and mentally. (I find exercise so bloody boring myself.)
And that picture was so unnecessary.
What about all you assholes go say the nastiest shit you can think up in another thread to each other, instead of ganging up on someone so vulnerable?
Unfortunately lots of things that are boring and/or difficult are really good for us' and too many people, especially in this country, always have an excuse and try to take the easy way out.
The picture was over the top and I shouldn't have posted it. It added nothing constructive to the conversation.

There was a pic I think tristan took it many years ago of a large girl toppless at BM, and the smile she has on her face is priceless.
If I was at home I would post it.

Yes the picture was over the top. The opinion expressed would have been better received without it for sure.
The worst thing i've ever done was at a church hamburger cookout, the 13 year old daughter (obnoxious kid that ate with her mouth open with food falling out, I usually waited until she was seated then sat where I didn't have to watch her eat, but she snuck up on me at this one). Anywoo, she was about 100 pounds over weight at 13 years old. Her mom is an M.D. and she kept saying that her mom said that she was so heavy cause she had a bad thyroid. I don't know what finally made me snap, but this is what got me on the church lady bitch list: "perhaps your thyroid wouldn't be so bad if you didn't feed it 5 hamburgers in one dinner."
Yes, there are some with medical issues that make it difficult, if not impossible to keep weight down. I am one of those lucky persons who actually DOES have a low functioning thyroid. I have to work harder to get my metabolism up and to keep my weight down. It's a battle. However there is a serious health/weight issue in this country. I was at the mall in San Antonio and was really struck by the abundance of unhealthily large children. Extremely obese. Its a fine line between encouraging someone to love themselves etc and also be honest about just how downright unhealthy they are.
Fishy, i'm glad TG has a champion in you. It's commendable that you want to protect her. This is not a forum for self esteem. If you put something out there on this board, you get the responses you get. TG should be fully aware of this by now. Kinda getting the dvd burner vibe to me. Throw something out there, see who bites, see who comes to my rescue? No one pulled any punches with DVD or with JPQ. They were pretty fragile mentally too.

You need to see your doc about the thyroid problem. I had it too and felt like crap for almost two years before it was correctly diagnosed. (I had a terrible doctor, who I have since replaced.) but let me tell you, that little thyroid pill works great once they get the dosage right.

Jkisha, the synthetic doesn't work for me. I was on the armour thyroid pill for a while, but it went out of production. I need to see if they are making it again. That was a wonder pill. Doc wanted to see how i'd do on my own after the radical hysterectomy. She thought perhaps the bioidentical hormones would help balance me out, but it looks like that is an epic fail. Been steadily gaining.

Whenever I hear these obese people-low thyriod-slow metabolism nonsense, I think back on my great uncle Mordichai Jacobowicz who survived Auschwitz. He weighed nearly 250 pounds when he was incarcerated, had a low thyroid and slow metabolism. He left Bergan Belsin in May, 1945 at 88 pounds. So in a short 18 months he lost 162 pounds with diet and exercise. Well, maybe diet is a bit of a stretch, but it can be done. R.I.P. Uncle Morty (1909-1981, rests forever in Forest Lawn Cemetary).

Well, once you move from anecdote to data, and look at the overall survival rate, you really do end up with Mordichai as an outlier.jkisha wrote:One might have expected him to live a whole lot longer with such a great diet and exercise regime.Dr. Pyro wrote:Whenever I hear these obese people-low thyriod-slow metabolism nonsense, I think back on my great uncle Mordichai Jacobowicz who survived Auschwitz.
