I'm doing better, thanks for asking! I see one of my specialists later today to get an update so if you're curious you can check out the blog.
And Iso...I'd recommend trying Kava Kava...it's a great supplement for overly stressed people. You seem to be showing some serious tension and stress in your posts. I'd hate to see you get overly stressed...it's not good for you.

Of course you will darling.
Can't imagine you'd deny any of us a miraculous, brink-of-death recovery when so much is riding on the illusion you've generated so far. I mean, this board just wouldn't be the same with you ultimately succombing to your 'illness' after fighting such a brave, heroic and selfless battle.

Thank you Spectabillis.
Speaking of gas, has anyone had experience running the lower octane gas you find in places like Colorado? Here in Kansas or Missouri the lowest octane fuel is 87. But in Colorado I've seen 86 and maybe 85. Does anyone use it? Does it cause problems? I stick with what the owner's manual says on new cars but I was wondering how it would work with an older car or with generators.

Yeh, most vans can't. Assuming one were enough of an idiot to do it on a van or minivan in the first place the engine burns pretty hot regardless of the octane content. Not to mention the sickeningly high volume of HOT air associated with such rigs.I don't think old Blue (69 vw van) could handle that.
Desert dogs drink deep.
no doubt about it, but in extreme cases that abundance of hot air comes in handy. like for instance driving over a high mountain pass in Wyoming on a two lane highway in the middle of winter and getting stranded because a snow storm dumped more than the always on top of it weather people said it would. brrrrrrrrrrrrr...

No doubt bullD. No doubt. Can't even imagine the amount of hot O2 needed to keep a stranded body warm during a twister tossing golf ball sized hail at you in the middle of a cyclone chase.like for instance driving over a high mountain pass in Wyoming on a two lane highway in the middle of winter and getting stranded because a snow storm dumped more than the always on top of it weather people said it would. brrrrrrrrrrrrr...
Probably the last words the local LEOs would hear on their radio before you froze your solitary ass off in your minivan.Quad High Green! Quad High Green! Quad High Green! Quad High Green!
OH FUCK YEAH!!!!!!
Or...
"Open mike! Open mike! You got an open mike!'Put your hand in my hand……and acccckkkkgghkkkkkkk!
the sign said "The Jim Jones Wilderness" I said to myself "self, what could happen, go for it!"
lol
seriously, and stupidly on my part, after a couple of hours an LEO pulled me from the sticky situation and then my gas lines started to freeze with no gas de-ice additive to be had for another 30 or so miles. so every 15 to 20 minutes I had to pull off the road for 10 minutes to let the heat build up in the lines again and then go for another 15 to 20 minutes.
I don't think nitrous would have helped me that night
he he he, memorable to say the least...

Badger, please read and comply. Thank you.spectabillis wrote:Since this is personal and has absolutely nothing to do with gasoline, burningman, or anything I can think relevant to anybody else - how about keeping this in PM's and off the board.
Also my question was about 85 octane gasoline with the intent to purchase said gasoline for use at Burning Man, not about NOS. Please stay on topic.
Edit: To prevent further escalation of this by me I am turning plonk back on for both your characters.

Cheapest I can find in SF is $2.79/gal ($3.19/gal in Palo Alto). High octane is the only thing I can run in my car unfortunately. Having to bite the bullet and keeping the transmission switch set to 'econ' for that 40 mile one-way commute. At todays price of gas, Tonight I'm a millionair. Pass that other plate of beans

one-way 40 mile commute, fukin hell...
I am looking into buying a Vandura school bus (just a one ton van converted into a shool bus) to sleep in starting next semester when my commute will consist of San Anselmo to the GG, $5 for the bridge (which will be going up), then half way through the city into the petrero hill district. It's not that far but takes a shit load of time and the bridge toll is heinous. I will be spending all of my waking hours at school and since I don't plan on moving out of my brothers house I see no other option. Ha! but options I have and that is good...
40 miles one way <shivering>, has to be 280 then ehh?

280 it is.
Sweet commute if you ht it at the right time. All cars, nary a truck which is the polar opposite of 101 on the other side of things. Arguably the best freeway commute on the west coast and probably as close as it gets to having an autobahn in California.
40 minutes is just enough driving time to have my coffee, listen to NPR and wake up before getting to work. Still, at 22 mpg/avg $2.79 is sucking medium size donkey.

yep, no bueno with these gas prices.
funny, over ten years ago I used to drive to San Jose and back to SF two to three times a week and thought the same thing about 280, beautiful, mellow and like the autobahn except, there is that one portion just past the 92 ramps (if heading south) that in either direction feels like a woop section on a bmx track. that will wake you up when flying up or down 280.

Been retired a few years now. Just this last week I asked for and got a Ins, rate drop for not driving to work. Bastards did'nt say a thing. Anyway if I figure cents per gal. it helps a little. Still have to drop some of my BM plans to aford gas and other ripple effected needs. Food is noticeabley higher here in the NW already.
I'm the contraptioneer your mother warned you about.

Octane rating explaination.
Octane is a rating of a fuels resistance to detonation.
The higher the octane, the greater the resistance to uncontrolled ignition.
Reduced air density reduces the tendency to uncontrolled ignition.
At higher elevations, an engine does not require as high an octane as it does at sea level.
Impurities in gasoline (alchohol) will boil and vapor lock at a lower temperature at higher elevations.
If your engine does not exibit preignition or detonation (pinging) - it is receiving sufficient octane.
Note: "Pinging" may be difficult to recognize in a modern vehicle.
