CoVid-19 and the 2021 Burning Man Event
One word: Zorbs.
In all seriousness though, I recall that the BORG had announced that they are planing on producing Burning Man in 2021. I think this is blindly optimistic as right now the best case scenarios won't see widespread vaccinations of American citizens until the end of the summer. Maybe they too have come to that realization, as of now I find no mention on the website of an event in 2021, and the "The man burns in 233 days" link from the JRS sent out on the 14th leads to a "page not found".
Only thing to do now is speculate....

No need to speculate... we have data.

I’m pretty sure healthcare workers and seniors will have a blast at BM2021!
The rest of us may have to wait a bit ...

does anyone know where I can rent walkers? I'm organizing a plug & play, er, I mean a group of overseas burners and we're all gonna need walkers but I'd rather not buy a bunch of cheapos from wal-mart and then just leave them in a big pile on the playa after the event..

Everything was fine until the "weekenders" showed up and started leaving their Depends in the Porto's. By Saturday night every pump truck was broken. Exodus was very telling as we witnessed piles of cheap aluminum walkers where in previous years there would have been abandoned bicycles. I'd have to say the worst thing was the utter chaos on 447 as everyone was driving 25 MPH and had random turn signals blinking all the way to Fernley.
- Big shout-out to the folks who ran the Geritol Bar for letting us watch the 8:00 PM Burn from their Lazy Boy Lounge. Thanks to them we were easily in bed by 10:00.

Same here. I just threw my back out the other day & would really like to borrow my 86 year old Mom's wheeled walker. It even has a seat & hand brake.

Re: CoVid-19 and the 2021 Burning Man Event
Here's a big news flash of reality for you fucks that don't show any respect for the over-60 crowd: We've been there and done that. I first jumped out of an airplane when I was 19; I've hiked on the Appalachian Trail; I've hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River and out again with an 80-pound backpack; I put my own life at risk and pulled a trucker out of a burning semi in 2008. A year ago I had to have surgery for the very first time to get two stents added to my leg veins (correcting my venous insufficiency) and to sleeve both sides of my abdominal aorta to prevent a life-threatening aneurysm (also fully successful). I walked for two months with my left leg bones grinding bone on bone because the cartilage is gone. I'm currently walking with a cane until knee joint replacement surgery can be scheduled. You wanna make light of our need for scooter mobility when we shop? I've got no problem with that. Anybody that wants to make jokes about seniors who are doing the best they can despite the physical limitations put in their way, though. gets a resounding FUCK YOU AND THE HORSE YOU RODE IN ON from me. Remember, folks, we're supposed to be burners who practice radical inclusion.

Re: CoVid-19 and the 2021 Burning Man Event
Simon, considering how much actual physical PAIN I've endured this year sans opiates to make it to the nearly healed point I am at today, I've earned the right to be cranky. I had a Foley catheter for a day and a half after surgery, so don't EVEN joke about that shit. I might just dump my bedpan on you.Simon of the Playa wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 3:44 pmnow that there is some kranky old bastard shit right there, hoo boy...

I've put every single invitation to join AARP into my paper recycle bag. I may have retired, but goddamn it, AARP for me stands for the American Association of REDIRECTED People. I'm busier than I ever have been since I now enjoy life, learning, and seeking that PhD. Oh yeah, did I tell you I volunteer in my local community? Every summer, I try to teach a section of 40-60 students at University Extension's lifelong learning initiative on American history of the Civil War. Unpaid. New interesting subject matter every year, and the students are my age and older.
Oh yeah, I also have the right to be cranky because I lost two of my best friends this year. I could tell you some great stories about our interactions, but I'm holding them in my heart to tell people in person.
And, in the interest of The Rod's 11th Principle I simply sign off to him in the immortal words of Jim Cornette
Thank you, fuck you, Bye!

Congratulations on being old. Would you prefer the alternative?
If you are unable to identify snark or simply take yourself too seriously to have a sense of humor then please by all means put me on your FOE list. It will save you a lot of anguish and possibly add additional years to your life misery.

BTW, I'm not too far behind you & this is the first day all week I can walk upright without pain. But I choose to love life as long as I can, fully knowing that I will get served a shit sandwich occasionally. If you are lucky enough to have a long life you will lose loved ones and your body will break occasionally.
You can curse life or embrace it. Only you can choose.

Re: CoVid-19 and the 2021 Burning Man Event
I haven't thought to jump out of a perfectly good working airplane since I was 14, did the Grand Canyon but rode a mule, did too much walking in the Kalahari (113 F in the shade) with much of it carrying water for others too naive to believe how much they needed, and so on, and I spent near two weeks on a Foley - and I was by far in the best shape/expected-medical-outcome of everyone in my ward (after a week, my chance of living was higher than dying; not so for the others) - and spent years of opiates prescribed by the litre. I've had it so much "better" than what others have got to do, and I've had it so much better/easier than what others have experienced medically (incidents & ongoing), and the times I've been hungry are measured in months, not years or decades. So... where the fuck was I going with this?

Re: CoVid-19 and the 2021 Burning Man Event
Don't get me started.
Time after time I've seen women do more with less while going through more, that relatively speaking, it makes being a man seem like a walk in the park. As so many women do so much so often and it gets normalized, I see so many women trivialize what women do: stop; no need - the men will do that for you.
The cost of clothes, and how long they're in style, or still acceptable for work.
And the woman "tax". A company will make a disposable razor, same but for colour, pink marketed for women and blue for men. In the quantities produced, WhyTF does the pink one cost 30, 60, or 150 % more... And so on...
