Bacon shortage looms in California

Post by some seeing eye » Sat Jul 31, 2021 3:40 pm

The humane bacon initiative of 2018 brings the chickens home to roost:

Bacon may disappear in California as pig rules take effect

https://www.porkbusiness.com/news/ag-po ... -january-1

We have an even stricter initiative on the hoof in Oregon, though it won't get to the ballot:

Oregon’s IP-13 Would Kill Oregon’s Livestock Industry
https://oregonfb.org/ip13_052021/

There is also similar underway in Colorado.

The value of bacon has been under-inflated for years anyways. Maybe if/when it costs $20/lb and comes from happier and healthier hogs it'll finally get the respect it deserves.

While we are on the topic, the film Pig (2021) is an unusual film set in my area. It is a tragedy, no character remains unscathed. Pigs are also in the new Avengers movie for some reason.

A pig also played a romantic cameo role in Black Mirror Season 1, Episode 1.

The 1998 indie film Scrapple is a really good movie about a pig named Scrapple.

Also, considering looming shortages and price hikes it’s a good time to start making your own bacon
