Are there any Burners into Geocaching?
Hi There!
Are there any Burners at this forum that do Geocaching?
I have a Travel Bug that is in a Travel Bug Race for the Burning Man Festival 2006.
His name is EL Wire Jr. and is in a race with 4 other travel bugs.
The race started in Norway September 15th 2005 and ends up in Black Rock City 2006 at the Playa Info. in Center Camp.
His GOAL is to get to USA and then head for the San Francisco Bay Area where he hope to hang out and party with other Burners and then head for BM 2006.
So what do you think?

I am interested in geocaching at Burningman 2006. I am new to this stuff so advice is appreciated. So far I have not found much encouragement., but I am inclined to try it anyway as a learning experience. Pilot phase if you will. Here is my idea.
I can place a container on the playa containing a log book. A simple notebook that people can post cache information for other players to find. basicly, it would be a register of caches and the communication point for those playing. People can log comments about their experience in the notebook as well.
Since I have not preregestered this with the artery I do not have a location prior to the event. Once at BM; I would register with the artery, and post the information of the original cache on the message board and on each street intersecting the esplanade. probably in the form of a sticker on the signpost.
to discourage the moop factor maybe the find could simply be a favorite quote, saying, words to live by, answer to riddle. whatever, im not a fan of dollar store chachi
Ground rules
family friendly content
no illegal substances
moop free - up to owner to design moop free cache and clean up at end of event
?
?
so.... what do y'all think?

It's the journey, not the destination.
Oh, oh ,oh ! I am totally into geocaching, and I have a few ideas as well.
So I ordered a bunch of tags to start new travel bugs, and I have them here and waiting....
maybe we should brainstorm together and figure out a way to attract the attention of other "Geocachers"... maybe on their way out of the event... or use YOUR "here" log and have mine to take away (if they wish)...
hmmm..... we need a clever slogan or attention getter ....
Okay, let's brainstorm a bit....

Might be interesting if any of your travel bugs could get to one of the regional events ... there is one in Spain that would be really cool to get a travel bug to. There is another on the East coast (Playa del Fuego).
Would also be interesting to have them make their way BACK to BRC after they have found their way to the various regional events!

Fanfreakintastic idea!!!! Love caching but haven't done it for a while. I agree with the dollar store crap comment...what to bring...what to bring...hmmm.
How big would the cache be? big enough to add goggles, pepperment foot creme, eco friendly soap, a led keychain or two, etc?

I love the travel bug idea! :D It would be very intresting to see how many burning man events a bug can get to and where they go in between.
I figured it would take a few years to get geogeeks@bm in the groove. I posted a message on the geocaching.com forum with some possitive results.
I was thinking of making a bunch of stickers that cachers might identify with. we could write coordinates on them with a sharpie and post them anywhere.
BM radio would probably help announce the activity.
The repository/initial cache could be a decorated ammo can or plastic notebook sized container. Do you think we need some kinda mark on the cache to indicate its a cache not somoenes stash?

Hey, its on! cache the man!
I will post coordinates on the message board at burningman as well as at each intersection on the esplanade. just look for a sign.
I will also coordinate with the artery and the radio station.
the starter cache will be smallish 8x5 or so and will contain the log for hiders to log coordinates and seekers to post finds. it will also contain some nifty playa essentials. :)
all cache owners are responsible for sustaining and removing thier own cache
please keep it legal and appropriate for all ages
lizzybellone cachin out and heading home
to the man, to the man, to the man, man man

I am sooo excited about geocaching. You guys don't even know.
I am going to start a cache at the point where the Burners Without Borders did relief work in Mississippi - but I am going to make it a photo-cache, at the place where there is a sign for the city. (Which may or may not have been made and placed in the middle of the night by burners).
That way- when you log into the cache, you will be able to see people AT the sign AND the condition of said sign (which may or may not be in need of a coat of polyeurthane, and which may or may not be maintained by any burner at any time).
I see there recently has been solar powered flood lights installed at the sign.... very interesting.....
~so sneaky!~
Martiansky, what's your caching login? I'm "Wilhawk".
