A CENTRAL RESOURCE FOR BURNER-RELATED KATRINA/RITA RELIEF

Dear Fellow Burners -

I've been asked by a member of the BM staff to collect as much info on Katrina-related Burner activities nationwide (or even international) as possible!

Although it is NOT an OFFICIAL BM site, I've set up a Yahoo Group to help me in this purpose. If I haven't found you, perhaps at least you can find me. The address is:

(Unfortunately, although I LOVE and PREFER Tribe.net as a mode of communication, it currently doesn't offer the amount of organizational flexibility and Options as Yahoo does, such as building databases, uploading files, and organizing photos and chat rooms)

...However I do still constantly scour Tribe.net for people and info since it is DEFINITELY more in touch with the Burner community, in general.
I'm just trying to be practical in choosing what can best meet current needs in this crisis.


Nonetheless, the idea is to have a CENTRAL place for people to post all "Burner-Organized" activities that are happening in response to this catastrophe....This includes first aid, alternative healers, performers, temporary shelters, & even loners who have just struck out on their own with provisions....ANYTHING!

If you've already established your own tribe or website, please leave a LINK on the yahoo group so that other Burners who want to help can find you!

The goal is to widen the communication nationwide among Burners, so we can continue to mobilize the best response.

I do know that there is already a lot of Burner activity from people who left directly from the Playa to the Gulf Coast, some taking the heavy equipment that they brought to the desert.

I also know that the Burners who set up the Temple each year have already set up a Free Community Grocery Store in Biloxi, MS which apparently has a large, Vietnamese community there that has largely been neglected, and they are truly appreciated and needed.

Another major BM goal right now is to help set up as much temporary shelter as possible for the some of the hundreds of thousands of people still in shelters, at least giving them a minimum of privacy comfort.

The BM staff is also in the process of setting up a Jack Rabbit Speaks communication system, to which much of this information will probably be funnelled once it is up and running.

Therefore, I am encouraging ALL Burners to post as much info as possible to the YAHOO GROUP

I also will be working full time to post as many links (including relevant tribes) and as much information as I can to this web address.

The point is for us to develop a centralized source of information for, by and and about Burners who are responding to Katrina.

As it currently stands, ANYONE who becomes a member of the group can post LINKS, PHOTOS, PDF & WORD DOCUMENTS, CALENDAR OF EVENTS and even CHAT about Burner-related Katrina responses.

In this way, people who want to get involved will have an effective way to tap into a network of other Burners who are already on the move!
