The CFO of Burning Man on bringing the nonprofit back from the brink

This would be an approved and crafted public relations missive in interview format. It is very short.

That said, the current CFO was a big improvement.

The current CTO - software things - is also respected.

The 2024 990 financial statement should be dropping soon.

I dont know about anyone else but for 2 years in a row we have had pretty shitty neighbors and this year's murder seems like a symptom of how the crowd is changing. I dont mind the horrible weather but it also seems like every year we think we have seen the worst the Playa can throw at us and them Mother Nature says "Hold my beer". Im sitting 2026 out and then ill consider whether Burning Man is still the event I fell in love with. If ticket prices go up it will be an easier decision. The cost is about to exceed my give a shit threshold.

Totally hear you. The vibe on the Playa has shifted for a lot of people, and the combo of crowd changes, weather, and rising costs is wearing folks down. Taking a year off to reset makes sense. Hopefully 2026 brings some course-correction and a return to what drew so many of us there in the first place.
