Expectations
Perhaps, I'm young and silly, I accept it. And perhaps dissapointment (or some other thing) is awaiting me in this venture, But I'm a knowledge seeker, wisdom more apropriately, and suffering in all its forms (though less plesant perhaps) has it's own lessons to teach.

Learning from one's mistakes is smart; learning from others' mistakes is smarter.
Read the B.Man FAQs and trust the survival and preparation info.
Poking a rebar-sized hole through your foot or getting heat stroke doesn't make anybody all that much wiser; avoiding that sort of thing leaves more free time for new experiences of a more interesting sort.

Words of wisdom
Though (as you obviously know by now *grin*) we may not agree on all things, If there's one thing that I think we can agree on it's that in any envyronment like the nevada desert, survival and safety are no joking matter at all, nor are they to be experimented with.
I have some survival sense/experience, but I've never quite had such an experience In "camping" as I'm sure the playa will provide. Believe me, I've been over and over the faq's, the survival guide, the first timer's guide, the checklist forum, and various unrelated desert survival information, thought I think the experience the burn will provide will be...breathtaking....to say the least, and I'm very excited about going, I won't be venturing into 110degree heat and alkaline dust untill I'm sure I'm prepared for the survival aspect of it. I won't be guessing as how to prepare, that's for sure.

Well now, seems I've ruffled some feathers, or something of the like.
Let me assure you that there's nothing that can be said that can dampen my spirit, cruelty, constructive criticsizm (or however you bloody well spell it) it's all the same sometimes. Let it out all, Seems as though I'm coming off as I'm not going about this appropriately, please! Let me know!.

Well then
Well, let me take this time to make a more proper introduction. *grin*
Name's Tristan, I'm 18, born in New York, Raised in London to 15, My family (The whole lot of us, Grands and all) moved back to New York. For the last year I've been Hitching my way about The states, just seeing the sights.
I've been living in Kentucky (of all places) for the last 3 months, when I came across Ari Fleisher's (pardon my spelling if needed...) Golden Cafe website. From there I've been skulking about the burning man site for a while untill I decided that I wanted to attend the next burn.
My motivation, you may wonder? For some time I've considered myself a "perceptionist" (Probably a word used to mark some other thing...and for that I appologise. *grin*) I've always enjoyed art in all it's forms, Music and surrealism being my personal Media. So, from the look of it, what better place to explore the range of human perception than a...gathering I suppose would be the best way to call it...where I could freely explore perception and art in a more personal way than any gallery or museum. As far as my own artistic addition to the upcoming burn...I'm waiting for the theme to decide....but I've got some Ideas. I plan on taking the coming months to gather information, supplies, wisdom and just ideas, in preparation for the event.
Well...I suppose I can't think of anything else at the moment....but I'm sure I'll find something else to ramble about.
"Love is beautiful....as long as you allow it to be."
"The battle for the soul is fought in the forum of art." (Yes...that is a scream 2 quote...)

Step one: Use your entire keyboard
Step Two: Run and Hide in the gun closet when Someone refers to you as Chum.

Re: Well then
Art is a fine thing. But before anything else, this is a camping trip. To a big dirty parking lot. In temperatures and other conditions that London and New York will never see until they're attacked with nuclear devices. Make sure you can have fun for a whole week under those conditions or your expectations are going to explode in your chest cavity.TristanGabriel wrote:...I'm 18, born in New York, Raised in London... Now I see why you were sayin I'll be fun to watch, and believe me I know it's like no camping trip I've been on, I've driven through death valley, so I have a very vague idea of what the desert can be like (in both day and night) but I also know I've never spent any amount of time there. I accept that I'm nieve to the reality of it, which is why I'm not going into this venture half-cocked.If there's one thing that I think we can agree on it's that in any envyronment like the nevada desert, survival and safety are no joking matter at all, nor are they to be experimented with.

I appriciate the concern, and don't take that as me saying "I know what I'm doing" I dont, not really, but I'm ready to learn. Preferably before the playa. Actually, let me rephrase that, I'll not let myself go unless I'm certain that I can survive comfortably.
Booze? Booze is gonna' take some angling, but I'm pretty sure I can pull that off....but I'm sure I'm not the only one in that position. *grin*
