Murphy's or Guinness?????
You gotta be kidding, right?

I tried it. I can attest:
The Ultimate Stout, this ale is big, rich and malty. Our Stout has a creamy texture unsurpassed in any of our ales. Black in color with thick, long-lasting, tan head. Its dark color and deep-roasted flavor comes from the use of Roasted Barley and Black Barley.

An Englishman happened to sit next to me at the breweries' bar and ask me which beer I would recommend. I immediately advised him to try the stout which I told him stood up to the finest stout anywhere and maybe better- he took a few swigs and agreed! Was damn please that I told him to try it when he left for his dinner table.
All beer is better at the brewery! This was one of finest, rich, hints of chocolate, coffee and dark roasted barley and everything else that cowboy said but blacker!
next time you're in Mendocino's fort bragg it's always worth a taste- North CAost Brewery!

I like Rogue shakespear stout...but the battle lines drawn between Murphy's and Guinness is intriguing. When in Cork, Ill order a Murphy's...when in Dublin, a Guinness..Never the other way around. Secretly, though..I prefer Murphy's...well I guess it's not a secret anymore
anything worth doing is worth overdoing..

Fuck our wine...but it seems California..and Oregon are making superior beers. Not to distract from the Original post...but I'll take a break, to give a nod to our Beers. And yes..I use "Beer" to generalize stouts, lagers, ales, Hefeweizens, Lambiques (sp?),etc..
anything worth doing is worth overdoing..

Deep Shaft Stout scores a 4.31, and is the only beer to be ahead of Guinness at 4.27.
Deep shaft is twice the price though. - I found this one in London, and you can find it in SF at Murphy's near the Ghiaradeli (sp) building.

this is one fo the stouts that can stop a bullet, if not slow it to a crawl. Dark, with a hint of chocolate, and full of spice. Drink slowly and hold for the best effect.
cheers.

For off playa, I prefer to drink stouts locally whenever possible...

Well, at least he finally shook loose from his religious up-bringing. Now, if can only rid himself of the self-hating need to be white.mdmf007 wrote:I was wondering what happened to Michael Jackson after his music career. i would have never guessed hes a beer tester now.

Back to the origional question.
Well I'm from Cork (Murphy's & Beamish) but live in Dublin (Guinness).
If you are in Cork, then either Murphy's or Beamish will taste better. Outside of Cork, no one drinks either and the pipes get mouldy and they taste odd.
In the U.S. Guinness is the way to go. The murphy's I had was brewed under licence in the UK and tasted totally different.
However then you have contend with being another fucking paddy drinking fucking guinness!!!!
But why would you drink anything Irish when you have such good local micro brews. All three drinks mentioned are part of massive conglomerates who are trying to take over the world (and buy Budwiser for some reason).
My call is Fat Tire!

Oh, and if any of you do come to Ireland, go to the porter house. There are 5 in dublin. They have many really good stouts that they brew themselves. XXXX (ask for 'four x') is my favorite but you will only like it if you LOVE stout. Its made from some really old recipe that they bought. Apparently Michael Collins himself used to drink it.
