How Much Editing is Too Much Editing?

Post by cowboyangel » Mon Jul 14, 2008 7:51 pm

I hate to do it, but I think faster than I type.
Or do I type slower than I think?
Oh and do you think less of yourself if you edit, once, even more if twice or more?
So, just how do you feel about editing? Is it embarrassing to see that stupid little notice at the bottom of the page that says, "Last edited by cowboyangel 43 times for 78.98% ?

And how do you edit the topic? I really wanted to ask, how does it feel to see that stupid little notice at the bottom of the page?

Ok ok that's enough. Somebody might think that I have nothing better to do...

First Pass: Get the core thoughts down.
Second Pass: Clean up sentence structure, look for cuts.
Third Pass: Punch up jokes, find widows & orphans, typos.
Irony. You're soaking in it.

I compose in word and proofread/spellcheck.

Then I paste into the window and preview.

Then I think about it and reread.

Then I make changes.

Then I preview

Then I submit it.

Then I reread it.

Then I change the typos I missed that got through spellcheck and previous proofreads.

Then I preview and reread.

Then if I’m lucky, I can leave it alone.

ETA: That’s if I don’t’ decide to rearrange that sentence that was bugging me.

I could randomly edit posts for you. That could be fun and a perfectly awful abuse of power. Buwahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ...

On some forums, you have 5 minutes or so to edit without the tag showing up.
You can delete the entire post under some circumstances (I haven't figured out when you can and can't)
Then you could redo it.

If I didn't edit, you'd never be able to read anything I wrote.

If you use firefox 3 you'll be a happier person and you'll have built in spell check (with a crappy algorithm for for correcting spelling) but at least it tells you when you're wrong.

You said "for for"

I would edit that!

Always edit right after someone has critiqued your comment in a way that makes them look like a idiot that doesn't know what they're talking about!

If I were the php programmer here, I'd a put some little message like, "because of inattention to detail, cowboyangel was compelled to edit this post 400 times for 891%"

I love it!!

I'm a spastic editor and don't really like to advertise that fact, but, honestly I can't click Submit until I click the Preview button 20 times... y'all will never really know how many times I edited. So, if you ever see an "edited" note on mine, it's cuz I saw a mistake after yet another re-read after posting and I just CAN'T STAND IT!!!

I did get a kick out of the idea of changing it later to make the next poster look like an idiot... heh heh

 You've been warned.

I never edit anything.

I always get it right the first time

I rarely edit. This behavior comes from years of posting on a political forum where we would not allow edits (keeps people honest). I try to make sure taht I mean what I say before I press submit.

Yeahhhh... you should definitely edit that...

P.S. NO - I DON'T understand how that stupid quote thingy works... :x
P.P.S. Ok, now I do (after my edit, that is)
P.P.P.S. Dammit - how many times do I have to edit this stupid message on editing before I can stop editing it?!?

by the way - i got a rude message telling me that I couldn't edit my last message. "You have to edit your message withing 60 minutes of posting" or some such nonsense...

I wanted to edit it because I was jealous of chiefdanfox's 335% edit. :(

I could be wrong, but it seems someone hit around 900% editing once.

I wonder how far you could take that before the server goes crosseyed?

This has been the funniest thread I've read in ages. This also means I live a sad little life.

Crap. I forgot to edit.

I try to type clearly, but sometimes typos make it past me. I also edit for clarity where needed.

Also, if its just a little quip, snarkish comment, or short reply I am less likely to edit the comment.

On the other hand, if its a post where I am into it - i will put a little more time and effort into it.

Like this one. :D
