She says she's paying someone to come with her and her "peri-menopausal friends" to come with them to do menial chores like fetch ice. What an idiot!
She also said Burning Man was 10,000 people! hahaha.
Sandra Tsing Loh's stupid show on her going to Burning Man
Re: Sandra Tsing Loh's stupid show on her going to Burning M
I just tried to send her a nasty email but it bounced. So I'm posting it here.madmatt wrote:http://www.scpr.org/news/stories/2008/0 ... 81808.html

"Hi Sandra - former fan here, and long-time Burner (this will be my 8th time). I was really glad to hear that you were going to Burning Man, because it's something that I would want every person to experience.
However, a fundamental part of "experiencing" it - IS DOING THE WORK YOURSELF! I can only hope that you were joking when you said that you had a "sherpa" that you were paying to go with you to do menial chores like fetching ice.
Going in an RV is not too luxurious, I do it, mostly because it enables us to truck up all our stuff without a trailer. But the part about doing your own work is at the very core of "radical self reliance" - at the very heart and soul of Burning Man. It's a temporary city that only exists because 50,000 people (NOT 10,000 - obviously you didn't read the Survival Guide or get past the photo gallery on Burningman.com) do all the work themselves.
And I'm not talking about "menial tasks" like fetching ice, but spending weeks out there building all the cool shit that you and your friends will be gawking at.
You will see what I mean the minute you get there. So if you are really interested in experiencing Burning Man (which I advocate, especially in the interest of your contribution to the documentation of popular culture), forget about paying someone to go get your ice. Go get it yourself, you might enjoy the five minute walk, and you might meet some nice people at Camp Arctica.
PS - don't tell anyone you're paying someone to do your work for you at Burning Man - they might not like you.
