If you could only have one dream come true and only one that would fulfill your every wish and dream and would make you the happiest person in the world what would that one dream be?

for me the perfect dream would be the one i'm starting to live right now.

to have a wonderful boyfriend with a wonderful wife who have welcomed me into thier lives for both good and bad. and to have such a loving relationship. to have a place to live away from the drama i currently reside. to get a better paying job and be able to finish school as well.

that i have someone who would like to form an alternative family with me. allow me freedom, and still give me love.

to finish my novel and make a career out of my writing. make some best sellers and provide for those i care about as well as my family.

that is my perfect dream.

The question is too broad to wrap my head around but I will share a dream I had a couple nights ago. Actually it was a nightmare, but somehow I found a way of cutting out the horror of it and after the self-protective conflagration, a seed of an idea stood unscathed.

Basically, I'd like to get about 120 acres somewhere around here, and build an apartment village + equestrian centre where people can rent an apartment/townhouse and board their horses on the same property. I thought a good price would be $800/month for a 1 or 2-bedroom apartment, board and feed for the horse(s) (maximum 2) and use of all facilities, maybe even utilities (at least drill a well and give them water), $1000 for a townhouse or stand alone cottage (includes feed/board for 3-4 horses).

I thought of building the main apartment building in dovetailed logs with Pergo floors, tiled entryways and washrooms, washer/dryer and woodstove in each unit. Barn probably wouldn't be in logs, there are steel buildings that work well enough and are probably easier to maintain.

And heck, it'll be out in the country, we could probably even have a community garden.

An attainable dream — if I won the lottery or really impressed a number of big-gun investors. Insurance would probably be insane but doable with the right advisors and lawyers. And I <i>know</i> I could attract a competent barn manager and stablehands in exchange for rent.

I'd love to have a coupla-hundred-acre patch upon which I could build a Burning ManAnnex, with mushroom clusters of geodomes and big open fire areas....huge communal studio spaces in quonset huts with fully outfitted shops.....a mini waterpark......miniature golf.....huge, permanent versions of Flight To Mars, the Kaliedodome and a Center Camp shade area......adjacent to a wind/solar energy array and vast gardens.....sigh.

Since you be cool,, gotta watch those log cabins... cold in the winter. Course if you got mild winters not a problem but .... They usually need small windows to compensate for the lack of R factor, other than that,, great idea.. If I wanted to actually identify myself I would give you my website with our horse stuff.. I’ve built two cabins myself, and I mean completely myself. Finished out a third one that was even bigger. They were hewn Appalachian style with the dovetail joints and all. With the way windows are built now-a-days, size is not much of a factor as it used to be. And R factor is not a fair way to rate logs. It doesn’t’ account for thermal mass. Once its at a temp, it holds it pretty well... absorbs heat during the day, releases it at night. Not chinking and/or caulking well enough (and the subsequent drafts) will cost you more than you potentially loose through the log walls. I say go for it. Cabins are pretty swell to live in.

As far as my dreams go, anymore I’m leaning more towards earth sheltered (read buried) insulated concrete domes... energy efficient, blend well with the environment. Build on a slight slope so you can still have a few windows peeping out of the native grasses letting in that lovely sunlight. That’s what I’m dreaming currently (at least as far as dwellings go). I’ll have to ponder the rest my dreams and get back to you.

Dunno,, Eugene is pretty moderate. Having lived in darned cold places I do like warm R36 or R40 walls,, Same under and over.. County building departments usually do a ratio of window size to R factor.. It may not reflect current technology, likely doesn't, Lotta counties won't allow composting toilets, or even sewer pump systems driven by solar rather than the grid.. In cold climes,, log cabins tend to be darker than I prefer.. But as I said, Eugene is pretty moderate.

Dang, I tried to get a rise out of her, enslaved horses and llamas indeed.. Ifn' ya'll know horses, you'd know they get darned excited when you saddle em up in the cool of the morning.. Jeffers, he right prances down the trail, trying to break into a run before I am ready.. The llamas are even funnier.. They love going on hikes. They stop at view points to look out over the countryside.. They spot wild critters for me, 'cause their eyes are much better.. We have one llama that hates to carry a pack, The other llamas ostracize him.. They take pride in their work.. None of my critters work too hard, the daughters see to that...... Happy slaves indeed.. Jeffers is pretty funny, he is a still half wild mustang, young and full of mischief. I can't approach him in his corral, he will run from me, rear and paw at me... I have to lasso my own horse in my own corral. Once I drop the rope around him he walks up and nuzzles me, then follows me like a big dog.. He just likes to play his games.. My 15 year old daughter though, can walk in with a halter, walk up to him and halter him,, but not me.. Poor enslaved beasts..

One cannot "upset" another anymore than one can make another "angry" or "sad" those are emotions and come from within. If one choses to become upset or angry or sad or happy etc. It is a choice the/ we all make. Buddha teaches that facing the troubles and tribulations of the world with equanimity allows one to maintain internal peace..When we have expectations unfulfilled, we often allow ourselves to feel these emotions. No one actually created them within us. Buddha teaches primarily that ridding ourselves of expectations allows us to face the world with equanimity. Teaching people the uselessness of upsetness, or angryness, or happiness, or sadness is a helpful thing. Of course, one cannot teach anyone anything, one must learn, which is and entirely different thing.
