non-burner MOOP

Post by Bounce530 » Wed Sep 03, 2008 3:55 pm

Just wondering if anybody else found any military left overs. While MOOP'ing around the perimeter I found a very old 50MM shell casing that had obviously been buried in the playa for quite some time, and been exposed due to the traffic.

Are you sure it's old?
The playa is a great place for long range shooting.

Bullet casings pop up all the time out there. It used to be a military shooting gallery. When you find some ordinance you should inform a BRC Ranger if you can as it might be considered historically significant or, worse yet, be live ammunition.

The north end is still listed as "Black Rock Gunnery Range" on BLM maps

50MM or .50 cal? quite a difference. Ones an anti aircraft round, the other is available at just about every gun shop in america.

.50 not exotic
50mm - quite a find in the field

its deffinitly old and been buried out there for a while. Its packed hard with playa, and is patena'ed (sp) with playa caked on it. Can't even hardly chip it off with out a screwdriver.
And yes it's 50cal, my typing mistake.
