Hey Larry, my cam works, fix yours!

Post by wedeliver » Sun Dec 21, 2008 11:02 am

I'll show you mine if you show me yours!!

I sure wish they would fix that Gerlach webcam so we could see the playa conditions.

I have a great time lapse video (snag it) of that camera maybe 3 or 4 years ago and it snowed, there were xmas lights, it was so PRETTY! (I'll try and put it up soon)

The cam has been in this condition for a LONG time.

Here is the Gerlach web cam

Chris Petrell is the guy in Gerlach who takes care of the camera. I'm not sure if he's really busy or if he has more important things to do than fix the camera. He needs to get a bucket truck to raise his amazing frame up to the camera and fix it already. It most likely is an adjustment, but he says it needs to be replaced and he can't get the folks at BMorg to give him a new one.
It's not exactly clear how you can motivate someone who doesn't want to be motivated. An electric cattle prod seems so cruel!
The internet is also screwed up and that needs his attention.

Chris----are you there?

First of all I regret not asking nicely and saying Please.
and
I agree and think that cam is fried. I don't think the image problems it has can be fixed either by software or lens. The image is not just out of focus. Maybe they should put the new cam on a pole that can be lowered (or rotated for adjustment). I know everyone has an idea they have already tried. Either way, this is a multi-million dollar business and the poor camera reflects poorly on the organization. Not that a camera should never fail, but it's been down for several months now. (no good deed goes unpunished, see what ya get for putting the cam up in the first place?) Or take the link off the front page rather then providing something that is of poor quality.

Actually I thought that perhaps someone was in the process of effecting a repair since the cam seems to have stopped sending data.

Or, the other option would be to remove the page from the website. No web page, no web cam, no poor reflection on the million dollar organization.

Probably kinda pathetic how much I love that web cam and how disappointed I am that it does not work....
But, I agree, better to not have it at all than to have it not work.

In the dead of winter, there is nothing more invigorating than clicking on the Gerlach live webcam and watching the sun come up over the mountains. It's strange to see Rt. 447 so void of the vehicles and activity that are there in August.
I sure hope that camera is fixed soon, so I can have my dose of the playa from the comfort of my computer.

If only someone would tell us what kind of camera is needed we could help. Someone in cyberland may actually have one that they could send to BM's office in Gerlach for installation on the next nice sunny day. If someone from SF asked Chris to do this it could actually happen, otherwise he won't get out of bed. How can I apply for a job like that?

 OMG 20" in the metro area here would just paralyze everything. I'm from northern Michigan and the worst snowfall I remember left 10' of snow over our drive way. Once it was plowed out, the resulting canyon proved to be a most awesome snowball killing field for un-suspecting neighbor kids :D

Does anyone have the phone number to Burning Man headquarters so I can ask about the status of the camera?

I will take out that turdly camera with my trusty BB gun then they will be forced to replace it with a new one.

Muahhaha..ha.

(Seriously though, I will ask Sherry C. whats up if I get around to it while I am there, and no you can't have her phone #)

Instead of taking out your frustration on a poor camera, why don't you bring your 45 and take it out on that turdly Chris?

I've tried.... his skin color blends in with the surrounding dirt, and it's hard to figure out which target is him when he hangs out in the herds of jackalopes like that.

That's an informational number. There must be a phone number to reach a real office person to ask. Oh how I long to see the sun come up over the mountains in the morning.

Well, the camera has been turned back up, but the picture is still blurred. I think we need to have local Gerlach resident Mama Lola beat the stuffing out of Chris to help persuade him to fix this thing already.

For those who are unaware, Mama Lola is a well known woman's wrestling champ. She also makes some of the best fried chicken in nothern Nevada.

Why doesn't someone MAIL a camera to them so they can put it up. I really don't think there is a CompUSA in Gerlach.

Yes, there is, well there was until they closed down their retail operations. You know when you pass Bruno's and the watertower and the highway sort of bears right? If you take on of the lefts into the residencial area, you would be right there. But now that there's no CompUSA anywhere, it's been taken over by Joann's.

Gerlach needs a Walmart Supercenter and a KFC to bring that little town to life now that CompUSA is gone. The Walmart could go where Bruno's Motel is!
