I'm sure the Floridians who voted for Nader felt being true to their interests was the right choice in the ballot booth....did they still feel good about their decision as Bush did his thing?

Has anyone made a survey of those 97,000 Floridians to find out if they will again vote for a third party this time around, since their last thing with Nader was such a win-win for USA and the world?

And from a huge Bernie fan comes this:

Did Sarah offend? Guess she could have gone PC and said something not to upset people.

Now Bernie or Bust people are victims? I wouldn't think those wanting revolutionary changes in our government would play the victim card, "shamed" being the word of the year BTW.

Simon of the Playa wrote: and it's "Un-American" so don't do it.
OK, so maybe Sarah is a traitor as she's un-American.

However, what I posted, in my words, can only be seen as un-American if the reader, defensively, frames it that way, when actually, it was just a question of how Floridian Nader voters might have felt during the 8 years of Bush.

But questioning isn't acceptable anymore I guess...NOT questioning seems to be the new American way of politics for regressives, but I'd expect a different philosophy from progressives.

thank you.

i think its important to remain open.

without it, we are doomed.

i just took a facebook leave of absence, because civil discourse has been replaced with blame-shaming, name-calling and a binary viewpoint.

life is not binary.

it is 50 shades of.....

dust.

and we are all made of dust, so lets start by agreeing on that, and move forward from here.

It is quite difficult to have a discussion when people are so busy judging you. As soon as that happens, it is no longer a discussion. Or when people get defensive about their positions. That instantly shuts down a discussion.

I usually just shrug my shoulders and walk away when, or if, it happens.

Just saying.....

Simon, you probably already know it really never bothers me to be judged, but I appreciate what it takes to step up and own it. I respect that.

Our country has a lot of problems to contend with and unless we all find a way to discuss the issues, nothing will ever change.

if enough people had the balls, to vote their conscious, instead of "holding their nose" and or "making sure their party wins", it might well put a 3rd party in office. I'd say the numbers would be very close, in a 3 way.......or 4.

But no, most are voting fear, ignoring the total lack of integrity of their candidate, just so "the other side" won't win.
sad really.

I'll vote 3rd party, or even write in, just to show my dissatisfaction for the choices we have.

Echoes my sentiments. I am torn between voting for "No Confidence" or a third party. I will state, emphatically, I will not vote for either of the dominating parties candidates. If that is the best they have to offer, I cannot imagine how bad the others in those parties are.

everybody should vote how they want to vote.

without fear.

and as far as third parties being a wasted vote or unimportant, we only have to look back to 1992, where if it wasnt for that plucky little texan, ross perot, Bill Clinton would not have won.

now, you can look at that any way you want to, but this phenomena is nothing new, and third parties, whether its bull moose, progressive, socialist, independent or otherwise have made huge differences in the course of our history.

i for one, welcome a coalition type government, with many viewpoints being offered to an educated and well informed public. A public who participates in their own democracy on a regular basis, not just every four years, and in a state of froth and frenzy.

this is our country, our government.

lets take them back from lobbyists, special interests,
big money pay to play, and two party cronyism.

enough is enough.

I just wanted to make mention, I've had a bunch of liberals post on FB that if you're a Trump supporter, unfriend right now because they don't want to be associated with bigots. But I have never seen a conservative make the same claim. Which paints a pretty damning picture on who's tolerant and who isn't. I'm no Trump supporter (I'm a Gary Johnson guy myself) and I'm dubious whether or not Hillary is any better (she certainly doesn't seem to be except she doesn't constantly put her high-heals in her mouth), but if somebody's political persuasion is enough for you to essentially write somebody out of your life (and we're not talking about Nazis here people) you need to do some serious self-introspection.

I blame Bravo and all the damn "real housewives of ...." television shows.

Crawled on the Gary Johnson bandwagon myself. Although I get a sense he is not taking it very seriously as he thinks he has no chance of winning.

After watching the DNC and RNC conventions, there is no way I am voting for any of those idiots.

There was about a 12 second period when the reality of Bernie not being nominated set in where I thought about voting for Hillary, then she hired Debbie and those 12 second promptly went out the window. No effing way I'm voting for either Hillary or Trump. I read an article this morning that stated that less than 9% of the total US population nominated Hillary and Trump, based on voting eligibility, voter turnout and voting for other candidates. LESS THAN 9%!!! I want a redo.

I agree, Simon. Life is not binary, and that discourse has been replaced by argumentative name-calling. We do need to remain open.

There is one thing I will say, though. You are dead on about the dust being different, with many shades. I hadn't realized it myself until I started accumulating data on playa dust. It varies in composition as to where it occurs (more gypsum near Gerlach), and varies in other ways, too! And that's just playa dust. There's also sabkha dust (adheres to salt flats), loess, and that killer of airplaines, volcanic dust. Also meteorite dust. And those are just the mineral dust components. Adding organics makes things even more confusing, and really can cause all sorts of nasty reactions that make you sneeze. Like pollen dust.

I agree. I was really disappointed when Bernie tossed his support behind her. Kind of said to me, he cares more about the party, than the country.

Bernie said from the very beginning that he didn't want to be another Ralph Nader, and that he would support the eventual Democratic nominee. So I don't know where your "disappointment" is coming from. Perhaps you need to manage your own expectations better.

I would also posit this: what if Bernie has concluded that caring for your country means electing a Democrat over a Republican this year? Has that point crossed your mind at all?

I know what Bernie said in the beginning. I was just hoping he would do the right thing in the end and not the expected thing.

I feel confident Bernie did not draw any conclusions as to who would be the best candidate. He went with the party line.

You are right. I should not expect any politician to do the right thing. Thanks for the reminder.

From where I sit, this is a false equivalency. Trump is a nationalistic strongman with a glaring personality disorder. HRC is an experienced politician, not without fault, but who is fully capable of good governance and good Supreme Court appointments. If Trump were president, inevitably some leader in some country would personally insult him and he will consider a nuclear response. He will reverse gains of women, minorities, and lgbt persons (make this country great again). He wants to criminalize women and the doctors who support them for exercising control over their own bodies. Again it's a false equivalency because it is a national emergency to not elect Trump.
Every aspect of life is education. Even if you don't immediately grasp the lesson. robbidobbs
