OK, I think I got it now...

If the below quote and the posts that preceded it are what precipitated this thread, here is my two cents.

No, I don't this it is a violation of the TOS at all...I think it is the person who posted the below quote that has a misunderstanding of the purpose of this forum as it exists.

Now, that being said, here is my solution. I think it could be a good idea to have 'private' threads here on eplaya for such purposes of discussing plans for a large camp. It could help to nurture community and give camps a place to post and plan.

These 'private' threads can either be totally private, in that only invited users could view and post in them; or they could be 'semi-private' where everyone could read them, but only invited users could post in them.

My preference would be for the semi-private, in that all users could be privy to what some of the camps are doing and possibly increase their interest in joining. They could then request permission to join and become a member of that thread.

This way, everybody is happy and people wouldn't have to worry about drifting a thread that was intended to be more serious and targeted.

JK
It appears that I must abandon this thread-- a thread I started for APOKILIPTIKA 2009.

I do so with some regret, but seeing as how this thread has become infested with various socks, it is quite impossible to use it for it's trusted original and intended purpose-- a dialog for our plans in 2009. That purpose is obviously defunct. This is indeed the reason for my prolonged absence.

So, I bid farewell to this thread, and instead shall wander here and there on occasion in other locations.

Shambala and Barbie, There is a person using multiple socks (identities thus the Syble reference) that has caused Col. Killbuck to pull the plug on his themecamp thread. Hijacking is a first step into troll behavior. Posting off topic and thread drift are usually not vicious but simply train of thought processing. Disruption is another thing entirely and is handled in many ways. Requesting monitors to pull sock operators access to eplaya is one way to control behaviors. Another way is to plonk identities by co-users. Sock use is a way around plonking( giving negs on identity headings ).

I agree crucify the B.I.A. Otch! And any "puppets" through-out time.

Becuase as we all know

"I am not he, I am me"....

Together we are one.

Wait a minute I am "he", yikes!

I know when I first posted, http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?t=20963, I had a puppets all over me. They did not respect what I was writing or even tried to understand where I was coming from. It totally sucked. It took away form the people that where interested.

And you know if these "Puppets" wanted to "play" nice then maybe they should have emailed the people they where playing with, like I have, the Kernul can confirm that one for me.

So I agree this event is not for "haters" that think everyone has to do it their way or the highway.

Well put MozyBonz. Lets end the bullshit that is not Art and let it get it's own event. CHANGE THE RULES AS WE GO ALONG! And force them to follow, becuase this is "our" event and anybody that is not just like us could never appreciate it for what it was set up to be, except someone that goes every single year.

Now who is not "playing" nice. Name this Sybil! We want blood.

[[Can you smell the sarcasm that I am cooking]]

And quite frankly if it was little ole' me that caused such a ruckus, then it would be a privilage to be the first "Artist" banned from this forum for be to original or too creative.

Donna Matrix had 10 times more originality than all of your socks combined, mousey mouse.

We have already heard all you have to say last year that was worthwhile.

I don't know if you could make a case of harassment, but what about commerce? A very thinly veiled case of commerce. With the link to the blog, which says nothing about open source, but does contain a direct link to cafe press shilling this crap. It's all about wear this shi(r)t on or before this date. To me that is commerce plain and simple. Demented and sad...but commerce.

Not sure about your idea that the Kernul misunderstands this purpose of this site.

I quote from this link: http://www.burningman.com/themecamps/
"If you wish to advertise your camp or event, you may publicize your plans on the Burning Man website in our bulletin of registered theme camps. You may also discuss plan ideas and recruit help on the ePlaya Bulletin Board and also submit your planned event to the Playa Calendar for inclusion in the WhatWhereWhen, the on-playa event program."

Yawn! Tempest in a teapot. If they want to go build a themecamp there are hundreds of better sites to use than the eplaya to do it with. Consider this a blessing in disguise.

Donna is your puppet? I would have never guessed? And you have so many "rules" and opinions about puppets, I am so confused, what to do. I know I will follow the lead of the thread poster.

Thank you, Donna is just a troll. Pretending to suck people in to talk about what is closet to them only to mock them. I agree. When "puppets" change their stripes they evolve into trolls.

You are right, "Cock the Charmin" is really stupid.

As for "Shock the Karma" :: Order #78765841 - You are wrong already. It is going to "pop" like nothing you will ever be able to explain. I can though, it is psychics.

And the Lounge existed in Sacramento for a 12 month period and I am proud to say "IT WAS GROUNDBREAKING!" I had the pleasure of meeting some of the best artists that town had to offer. I didn't do it for a week. I did it as my life. Hell, I battled Loki there, one night I rearranged the stars in the sky, I MADE LOVE! I pushed the ball that is "Abstract Realism" down the hill into the art movement it is becoming.

Be jealous.

If you are talking about the "Shock the Karma" art mobbing then you didn't understand "copyright free" and "make your own shirt" I thought that was pretty self-explainitory

And I would also have to point out that their are too many "people" plugging their own stuff in a "covert" way the get that one to stick. And too many threads that tell people where to "Buy" things, links to "Visit My Blog" and things that they are developing.

If it is not me, then put a link to this HERITIC and lets get on with the CRUCIFIXTION!

ePlaya Community Guidelines

These guidelines were developed based on community input and best practices from existing bbs'. It is the goal of these guidelines to help foster a strong, supportive community.

...

Philosophy

Expected Behavior

* Before posting messages, take some time to read the forums and get a sense of how people interact. Coming on like a bull in a china shop will not win friends - respecting the ongoing flow of conversation will.
* There are different areas for different purposes within the ePlaya. Please respect their intended use, and keep on topic, especially when creating new threads, e.g., do not post political discussions in the Newbie area, etc.
* "Cross-posting" - the act of posting the same message across multiple threads - is unwelcome.
* Personal attacks are unwelcome.
* Illegal activities are unwelcome.
* The ePlaya is a no-commerce zone. Recommending a good deal you found is acceptable, gifting is always encouraged. Advertising items or services for sale or trade will not be tolerated.
* Contributions should be intelligible and add value to the discussion. Before jumping into a discussion, be sure to read the messages posted and reply in context.
* Your words are a reflection on you. They are how you will be judged by others. Be careful in how you present yourself. Once you have committed your words, you will have to stand by them and coexist in the community, as they cannot be edited or deleted.
* We encourage you to represent yourself as you are known in everyday life and on the playa. Being yourself on the ePlaya goes a long way to building lasting, trusting relationships. Multiple identities are discouraged.
* Remember that there is a thinking, feeling human behind every username. Always.

Donna is a real person, with real feet, and genuine beliefs of her own,
not that sick picture of the bondage clown you sent me in my private messages last year either, which I def consider harassment.

I am done with you, you have finally reached the limits of my tolerence for assclowns.

To be clear this is only my Observation

That is why it’s a question.

I have him and all of his socks plunked.
So it’s no skin off my nuts what he does.

And no mater how ugly I think Kernul Killbuck looks.

It is still my option that:

Harassment to the point that a thread needs to be locked is crossing the line.

I offer NO form of punishment only my Observation in this mater.

to me he is a troll.

I don't think I misunderstood anything. I agree that this site not only can, but should be used to discuss and plann playa events.

My understanding of what MozyBonz was upset with was that there are too many people hijacking the thread with unrelated content or 'thread drift'. There is nothing in the rules that says someone can't 'drift' the thread; which I understand can be anoying if overdone--especially in a thread devoted to planning an event.

So my suggestion was that such threads might benefit from having the ability to make them private, semi-private, or invitation only or any other varient that would help them be more useful to their purpose.

I see from the TOS that multiple identities are discouraged. I think they should be totally prohibited. Other sites I've been on will actually ban you if you have more that one account.

Multiple identities are discouraged but not forbidden...as this is a community of artists, and for some one of their artforms is that of sock puppetry. If we start getting into banning what everyone doesn't like, in short order this place will be as empty as the playa in January.

I would know a thing or two about socks...as I'd be willing to bet I had more on here than any other participant...the last time I looked up the list it was over 40...and they span over 3 different versions of the eplaya...and despite all the trouble I caused with them....they

Also thread drift has a very long and established history on the boards as well...some even say it's one remaining link back to the event's Cacophony roots.

In short...if you don't like it this is a do-ocracy, do like I did and run your own phpBB BBS, and start your own online communities before trying to ban everything you dislike out of existance. That is NOT the answer to the problem.

hmmm.

and now for the voice of treason.

i'm going to attempt to skate the razors edge, blindfolded.

to sock or not to sock, that is the question.

it's fun to sock...who has'nt socked every now and then...maybe alone one evening, and you dont want to take the pills that may cause sleep crime, so you sock..

it's all in good fun, right?

when does it cross that line and cross the metaphysical nose on my face, when is the point that i cant turn off the channel, and walk away, without fear of continued "performance art"....sometimes, you've just had a hard day on the playa, and you dont want to play along, you just want to sit down, have a coffee and smoke a cigarette. It's fine, nobody is going to force you to participate.

but when it persists, against your wishes, or attempts to avoid or put distance between, then it is a problem.

i regret that the apok thread got closed down. i looked forward to the artwork..i thought it was great.

i can see why the kernul would not appreciate the incessant intrusion.

he/she/it could be multilaterally plonked.....end of problem.

go nuclear.

or not....

it seems that the socks are far too lockstep...there's no creativity, no true schizophrenia, as possibly witnessed on other boards.

it's "spam, spam spam, spam" i think it was called.

it's your choice...read the junk mail, or pile it up into fun shapes, and burn it.
