How Did You Get Your Playa Name?

Post by flatlander13 » Fri Jun 26, 2009 9:02 am

What is your playa name? Is it the same as your Eplaya name?
How did you get your playa name......and does it have any meaning?

I'll go first.......

My original Playa was Scout because my real first name is Scott....but every other idiot at Burning Man is named Scout (which means that I fit perfectly)....I changed my name to Flatlander....it comes from a Larry Niven novel called Ringworld.....its a description of humans from Earth in the future....its also used as derogatory description of humans from Earth.

Anti M = Auntie Em = Aunt Margaret, in a note left by my nephew and adopted by my burner buddies.

Originally maggiemayday, my George Hayduke Revenge name, but everyone called me Maggie. Maggie is better than Marge, but I still don't like it much.

Also, Bad Maggie, from non-burner friends who like to hear about Burning Man. That amuses me.

Used to race cars as a hobby. My favorite was the Toyota MR2 Spyder. Just added geo to make it earthy. Same name used for Geocaching. All ties together.

My first year, a cute thang walked up at Center Camp and handed me my "Tarot" card signifying something about me....... Then she skipped off.... One of my first experiences to random acts of interactive gifting.....

It read..... This Is That..... Which Is.

And, yes...... I still have the card............. 8)

NO!!

I never put that 2 and 2 together....but I remember the Maggiemayday in Hayduke.
I'm a long time Hayduke fan and now I'm going to have to dig out all my volumes to see which specific mayhem is yours!

I'm an old guy, it fits. I gave it to myself as a matter of pride that I've lived this long considering all the dangerous shit I've done.

In prison I was called O.G., meaning original gangster.

As an Alpha, I called myself Oxford 5.

I've been known as Catfish, Rock, and Wizard. Depending which volunteer crew I was on, they would call me by that crew name. At the airport, I'm Catfish. At centercamp, I'm oldguy.

When my husband and I started dating 10 years ago, he asked it was cool for him to call me Red (for the red hair). I said sure, and from then on to him, I was Red.

A year later when I came to my first Burn, I introduced myself to people as Red, and met several other people who called themselves Red. Then, when I got on eplaya and tried to use Red as my handle, I was informed that there already was a Red. I threw Oregon in before the Red and OregonRed was born.

I use it on the playa now for a couple reasons. First of all, it's what you guys all know me as, and those of you that I camp around call me that. Second, I haven't met another OregonRed, which I like.

I picked my current name 2 years ago, my previous name was GreenPenis, which I didn't pick...but it stuck because that was the name of my themecamp.

With the themecamp no longer going on I thought it was time to move on to something a little more "tongue-in-cheek".

Being called "GreenPenis" was never comfortable for me, and after 9 years of it , I had had enough of the wierd reactions upon introduction.

Even Larry wiped his hand off(jokingly) when we were introduced the first time.

Oh, Mojo, don't go look, that's some of my worst writing ever. The rough draft got published, not a polished piece. I wish I'd hung on to the correspondence we had going. There was much more mayhem I'd submitted, but either he died or went to prison or found a girlfriend in Argentina.

Swampdog - My title at work got so it didn't describe what I did at all. In a fit of pique I submitted a request to my boss to get new business cards. He didn't notice that I put my title as "Swampdog" and signed it right off. My thinking was, this place is a swamp and I'm a big dog. You want to get something done, you're gonna wanna talk to the Swampdog. It was kind of cool a couple of times when I was in meetings with outside companies (potential customers or suppliers) and I'd bust out the "Swampdog" cards. People would give me a look like, "here's one of those renegades who can get away with shit because everyone knows how good he is." Instant cred.

I'm still at that (very big) company, I don't know what my title is these days and I no longer care. As long as the checks keep clearing, I'm a happy drone. I think I still have half a box of "Swampdog" business cards, though.

Not as cool as a name someone gifted me, but it suits me.

had a college friend who's girlfriend heard of an underground party we could go help decorate

thought, cool... hang out, stage craft stuff (years of it in h.s.), and hang out

it was called blissmass, and i came out as an elf

rocked it, and sultan of nuclear fam declared my name... made a point of including 'the' for some reason...

then some wandering and travelling, post-college-psych, found me flirting with a couple cults...

one called me satyaaum, saying i had knocked with the right knock

much to the chagrin of the second, who countered with "mayavin 'an incarnation of visnu'"

though the streets of venice (beach) call(ed) me monk

soo hard to know whether they still do

soo many miles away

Here is a shot someone took of me on Thunderhill raceway in NorCal 6-7 years ago. It doesn't show, but this MR2 was heavily modified for the track while keeping it street drivable - suspension, intake, exhaust, etc. When time came for the first CA smog check I registered it in Nevada using our address there. No way with the intake and exhaust modification would it have passed CA Smog even tough it was probably cleaner than what they required. The mods were custom and didn't have the CA certification tags.

How I Got My Playa Name....

I like monkeys. I especially love oranutans and gorillas and chimps....

*swinging on the chandelier*

Have I told this story before? I'm sure I have 3-4 or 15 times.... It was a lonely isolated night in the eplaya bar in 2003. Donita (my mundane persona) came into the eplaya bar bored. She brought in a friend....a beautiful red-headed orangutan. They got drunk. VERY DRUNK. For every Sierra Nevada Pale Ale that Donita drank, the orangutan drank two and eventually she got WILD. Fucking wild. The apple don't fall from the tree. heehee. Monkey got out of control, especially when she found the jukebox and played this song...

The monkey went fucking APE WILD....hung from the chandelier, throwing kisses, flinging poo across the room.... YOU HAD TO BE THERE. Gigglesnort was there, Sputnik was there, Sensei was there..... Monkey started kissing patrons of eplaya bar all over as they mozied in on into the bar wondering, "WTF is going on here???!!!" She went wild, humping and bumping, swinging from the rafters, dancing like a freak, having FUN...

Next day monkey had a huge hangover.

...and that's how I got my name.

:P

Welcome to my jungle.....now scream --- SCREAM!!!!

If you look closely into the rafters or corners of the Bar, you'll still find loving monkeypoo in the crevices. They smell sweet...like patchouli. Yay!

I made up my own name. I don't need anyone to give me a name.
I saw people on playa. I saw them making love in the dust. I saw them
making love as they spun fire. I hit them on the head and private parts
with my magick playa fairy dust wand. I whacked them on their asses hard.
They liked it. They asked for more. With every wish you ask for, your
dreams go out to the universe and are answered. Y'all are a bunch of kinky
mother kinky fuckers. I, and the universe, hear your wishes.

They are being granted.
