Socks and and excess of snark
A few thoughts and personal opinions from one of your moderators:
Okay, I don't have a problem with a sock or two, I can look and see who is who. I do have a problem with socks who derail topics and have lengthy conversations with themselves. I'll out you if you cross the line.
Snark. We all do it, and some snark is fine and downright funny. Abusing newbs, even if they are DJs, is not snark. That's just mean. Cut it out. Unless it is the gal asking for a ticket to manifest itself every year, she's fair game.
When an earnest question is asked, please, helpful replies first. No matter how much you want to tell them to read their fucking ticket and the fucking survival guide, don't. Try something polite before ripping them a new one. If a thread devolves into snark, that helps no one. We want the eplaya to be USEFUL. What you do once a question has been answered, or the person has been sent to an appropriate link, that's a matter of taste. Simple steps, answer first, snark later.
Amuse yourselves in your own threads, your own camp threads, and certainly in Open Discussion. elsewhere, I would not ask for a complete shutdown of remarks, but please, show some judgment and restraint. What comes to mind for less snark, more advice, is the Q&A and the share resources threads, and some of the 2009 forums.
I can't suspend or ban any of you, I would not do that anyway, but please, don't make me get out my stern Anti M scowl. This is not about censorship, it is about having a forum which can be used for information, not personal amusement. I like performance art, but I don't like having to wrangle it. and some of you are getting geared up, I can tell. Let's reel in the assholery a notch, if possible. And I will not use my ability to edit posts to make you look completely foolish for the purposes of evil. But I'm tempted now and then.
Yes, you may snark at me now. But I'd like some thoughtful replies also. Yes, I can accept that I may be totally off here with my Agenda of Nice.
Thank you,
Anti M

AntiM, I think you are doing a great job.
I agree that it can be frustrating when one tries to provide useful information and is immediately buried in snark. I think it would be great if the first page of a thread were to be useful, and if it has enough interest to make it to page two, let the fun begin. If a question is so stupid that nothing useful can be presented, I think a silent thread is also very appropriate!!
Keep up the good work.

Yo…….Starboy……I see that you again have your nose pressed against M’s bottom……
Please remember that this is or was an open forum……..that means when I ask a question……I might expect a number of answers……of which many may be also stupid……or god forbid……snarky
What’s next? What rule are YOU going to add to the mix? Tuesday is “No Cussing Dayâ€

Yeah, well, fuck off. What's so fucking wrong with a little fucking civility in a few fucking forums? Never confuse The Playa with Eplaya.
That may be read without or with a tone of snark, as you like.
Get your nose off my granny panties and have a big cup of shut the fuck up. And quit looking at my tits.
Oh wait, we are not on page two yet. And yeah, I guess it is easy to confuse my nipples and my belly button these days.

Personally I don't think peeps are watching me any more or less then the gov't isAntiM wrote:So, tell me how long you've had the feeling people are watching you.flatlander13 wrote:M…….you should know I really respect someone who tells me to Fuck Off………and you made me laugh really hard…….the people that work around me think I’m a little more crazy……….
But I did have a co-worker tell me recently he thought I was rather deranged. I told him that I hoped he enjoyed the show
I try and save my assholier posts for true assholes, but I do like to interpose a bit o'humor into some (ok, more then some) of my replies. It helps me get through my days here and hope that it brings a smile/grimace to y'all. Imparting experience I've gained from the burn, and my interactions with peeps here is something I like to do, although tempered with the understanding that I am only a freshman burner, soon to be headed out for my sophmore burn
I respect the experience and positions of all the mods, but I'm generally not an ass kisser. I prefer the front side meself
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

People have been watching me for about 15 months……which is how long I have had my current job…..the reason I know this is because my office is directly at the end of a hall…..anyone walking down the hall can look right through the window into my office.
I put up a curtain to keep people from looking in, but if my door is open……there they are…….watching me………did I tell you about when I was abducted by aliens?

If someone is trying to get an answer for a real live question, I do my best to answer them.
If their question has already been answered, then of course, it's time for a bit of fun. I hate the threads where a newby is asking a genuine question and nobody gives them a straight answer. This is not the playa way.

I like to bring at least enough socks for two fresh pairs per day. If you run out of clean socks, it's tough to put the dirty ones back on.

AntiM, you're doing a fine job. The anonymity of the net seems to bring out the rudeness in people. I'm not rude in person and I don't see any reason to be rude in anon. Youtube is a good example. Some people have nothing intelligent to say, so, they scream out something banal, rude and stupid. I see no reason to be snarky either. Everyone has been in a new situation and asked a dumb question. There's no reason to jump on their shit just because they aren't up to speed in a given arena. I find it easy to just "let it pass" Many others don't.
When a blog loses civility, people avoid posting something that might attract ridicule. Nobody wants to waltz into a room filled with people with slings and arrows. That's why I don't ever flame. The "bar" thread is probably the most civil place on E-playa. Casual is best. Not having a problem with self-esteem, I don't bother with socks either. There's nothing that I would say behind a person's back that I wouldn't say to their face. Casual and honest seems to work well.

I don't post things because I believe that they are the absolute truth. I post them because I believe that they should be considered.

You almost fit the bill Token - you drink, smoke, swear and swear, but you dont scratch yourself or fart excessively. You could have camped with us had you done that.Token wrote:I'm looking for a cool low-key camp to join for this years festival.
I'm a chill 40 somthing-ish alcoholic and home brewer. I smoke, drink, i curse and swear all day long and am full of anger and snark.
Hoping to find some like minded souls and maybe land a shower mid week.
